Publisher's Summary

After his mother, the beloved Rebel Queen, is betrayed and murdered by her own faithless lords, young Maric becomes the leader of a rebel army attempting to free his nation from the control of a foreign tyrant. His countrymen live in fear; his commanders consider him untested; and his only allies are Loghain, a brash young outlaw who saved his life, and Rowan, the beautiful warrior maiden promised to him since birth.

Surrounded by spies and traitors, Maric must find a way to not only survive but achieve his ultimate destiny: Ferelden’s freedom and the return of his line to the stolen throne.

Fantastic Read

This is an excellent read even if you have not played the game at all. I was losing sleep because I had to figure out what would happen next. If you enjoy dark fantasy novels this is the one.The narrator was just perfect and the audio quality is fantastic. Thanks audible for a great 13 hours.

Never played the game, but a good story.

I liked this one most of the two books, mostly because the character development in this one is much better, although still a bit simplistic and often times uninteresting. The main character is really quite predictable until events unfold that change him. There is a lot of good action scenes and some interesting turns--albeit the plot is somewhat predictable in some parts--but for the most part was still interesting. Some of the phrases used to describe things are overused a lot and get rather annoying. The narrator was good and did a fine job of putting emphasis on high 'energy' situations and acted the parts very well.

Slow start but gets better

I found the beginning very hard to get into. I had to re listen to chapters multiple times because I found myself not paying attention. That for me isn't a good sign, but eventually it does pick up and I finished the second half in less than a day, whereas the first 1/4 of the book took me weeks.

All in all just give it some time the story does become enjoyable and exciting eventually.

A Wonderful Epic Adventure

This book is wonderful you are immediately captivated by the story. Stephen Hoye's voice is exactly what I hoped for he paints the picture of this story beautifully. I wasn't able to stop listening. This reminds me of people sitting around the radio before the days of television. Just Fantastic!!!

A Great Prequel for Dragon Age

The novel is essential reading for those who have played Dragon Age and want to know more about origins briefly mentioned in the game especially Loghain.

Great series!!!

More than just background to a Great Game

Big Fan of Bioware games. Was expecting a time waster novel for a long drive I had, that would give some background on the Dragon Age game which I love. To my surprise it exceeded my expectations and then some. Kept me engaged from start to finish. Very good character developement, engaging albeit predictatble plot, and excellent naration. Probably not for anyone who has no interest in the game, but if you have played or are planning to highly recomend using a point for this excellent fast paced listen.

The background information is worth a listen!

Having played Dragon Age: Origins before listening to the audiobook I was looking for information not contained with the game. The audiobook supplied that information and more. Whilst listening to the audiobook I would get flashes of gameplay which the audiobook referenced especially the trek within the Deep Roads.

A great book and I'm looking forward to the second audiobook.

I love dragon age

Audio was great. Had mine sped up a little bit. And I loved the story. Skipped around a bit but it was good. Loved the background it gives. Gives an all new perspective for the games as well

Damn good

Besides the time skips here and there in the story I enjoyed it very much with a good performance and a good story though a bit sad it was worth the listen.
