When the body of a girl turns up in an affluent East Lothian town, the main suspect is a teen with a history of run-ins with the police. Good and bad

Mixed opinions on this. The story is good enough but behaviour of the DI and the attitude towards his team is unbelievable and in real life he wouldn't have a job.
The narrator still makes the female characters sound like they're about to burst into tears but is marginally better than the previous book.

Great intro to this series

I enjoyed this book and audiobook, even better that it was set in East Lothian. Good plot and characterization. The only downside is that not all the series is available in audiobook form. Good narration

Was a struggle

The constant arguing & whinging between all members of that police force is off-putting and boring. The story was ok but was obvious from the start who did it. I cant warm to any of these moany characters.

I really struggled with the narrator. I have some hearing difficulties and struggle with lower tones. Ive never struggled hearing an audio book until now. Unfortunately this narrators voice was the perfect pitch for me to not hear properly

Quite poor

I didn’t enjoy this story though I did manage to listen until the end, which was a bit of a struggle. I found the constant aggressive bickering between police ridiculous (that’s putting it mildly). Yes, I do realise Jamie Cook was the main missing protagonist but good Lord did he have to be mentioned in virtually every breath. Not my type of story. Although I have listened to Ed James previously I don’t think I’ll be doing it again

Narrator

The story was OK a bit predictable
The narrator style is stilted and makes listening a bit hard going.

This series is getting hotter

Great characters and wonderful storyline. These books are a little thin, but the concepts are great and with some work could be best selling. If you have trouble listening to the stilted accent, slow it down by 1 or 2. I loved this series and hope to be able to find the rest. 3 books that got me passionate about reading and writing again.
