Publisher's summary

Detective Mike Nash thought that moving back to Yorkshire from London would give him a quieter life. Little did he know....

Bones in the water

Two skeletons are discovered in Lamentation Tarn, a mountain lake. Talented detective Mike Nash and his team have little evidence with which to work, until a surprising discovery prompts them to contact law enforcement agencies in Eastern Europe.

A gripping, fast-paced mystery with some stunning twists

A joint task force is formed to uncover a criminal network involved in prostitution, drugs, and human trafficking, but Nash's preoccupation with internal politics, as well as with an attractive Russian detective, proves to be a distraction.

A breath-taking crime thriller perfect for fans of Ian Rankin, JD Kirk, DS Butler, or Peter Robinson

Finally, a young victim escapes the gang's clutches, providing Nash with much needed evidence. A search of the neighboring tarn yields evidence of even more heinous crimes. Who else will die before the criminals are brought to bitter justice?

Well done

Yorkshire, testosterone-poisoned, international-crime-and-mystery, interpersonal-problems, intolerance, first-in-series, thriller, crime-fiction, egoist, murder, murder-investigation, unputdownable, trafficking, tragedy, grief, grieving, teamwork, procedural, suspense, punny, banter, friction, friendship, frustration, law-enforcement, relationship-issues, relationships, small-town, rural*****

After finishing #15 read to me by the robot (it's a vision thing), I was delighted to see that the first in series was available by a real professional narrator as this series is new to me.
This case is a little too close to reality and begins with a skull instead of a fish hooked by an angler in a cold mountain lake. That leads to discoveries of murder, human trafficking and more on an international scale. Interesting to meet the characters and to see the changes time brought to the team. Very good start!
It's a great read with all sorts of twists, red herrings, and awful puns.
John Lee is an amazing audio narrator/voice actor!

Great story narration not so much

Really great story with lots of twists and addressed a disturbing but important topic. The narrator however just about did it for me he has the most bizarre cadence to his voice and accents are terrible. his Yorkshire accent in particular

It was good but not gripping

I honestly was not even sure what was happening, it switched character views and so I couldn’t tell what was happening or who was talking for a minute. It didn’t say chapters either so there was no telling if it had switched or not. The story was good over all and the reader was great. But not well put together. I think it’s a good casual read but I didn’t get into the story as I had hoped I would.
