Very informative and refreshingly practical!

This audiobook offers insight into the minds of the difficult-to-deal-with types, as well as a game plan for setting the boundaries needed to keep them at bay. It goes into detail about how to avoid playing games or falling prey to the dirty tricks and traps that toxic people are so skilled at constructing. Additionally, it provides advice for dealing with difficult coworkers and family members. The book also offers a comprehensive understanding of recognizing the Dark Triad, including narcissistic behavior, psychopathy, and sociopathy. It provides helpful coping mechanisms for dealing with the stress and distress that comes from interacting with the hardest people to love. You can tell this was well-researched. The author did a great job at delivering complex material in a very simple easy to understand way!

Much needed book for people pleasers!

I'm so glad I got to listen to this audiobook. As someone who is a people-pleaser and find it hard to stand up for myself, I learned alot from this book. The author teaches you how to spot narcissism and some strategies to handle them in the workplace. (1 out of 200 people are narcissists!) I learned that sometimes it is just in their genes and it kinda made me more compassionate towards them, especially when their self-esteem is actually very fragile. The chapter I enjoyed the most is probably Chapter 5 where the author teaches you how to identify your own toxic behaviours. Sometimes we are so focused on the external and forget our own toxic actions. The key is to find out the root cause of your pain and stop hurting the people around you whether consciously or subconsciously. The author shares many anecdotes that makes understanding her message better. She also uses a firm but compassionate tone so you'd not feel defensive but rather, you'd want to improve yourself. I think this book is a very important one for your mental health. I highly recommend it!

Great

Am I the only one, or does it seem like the 2020s brought in a new waive of mean, angry and manipulative people? I've noticed it, and so have many in my circle. I was happy to listen to this book because I really needed some new tools for dealing with people like this.

The author does a great job of offering well researched techniques for dealing with today's bullies, liars, and generally not-nice people.

Everyone will find value in this book

As someone who has encountered difficult people in various aspects of life, I found this book to be an empowering resource. The book begins by acknowledging that the world is filled with challenging individuals, from haters and liars to narcissists and control freaks. Many of us have faced these types of people whether at work. Personal relationships or even within our own families.

Chapter 5 in particular is one I found to be the most impactful chapter as it reviews how to identify toxic behaviors within ourselves which is often overlooked in other self help books.

I appreciate the book being practical. It’s not full of fluff but instead the author presents actionable steps to detoxify our environment, safeguard our mental health, and reclaim our personal power.

The book is an invitation to self empowerment. It encourages you to become stronger, more confident, and assertive versions of ourselves.

Insightful and pleasant listen

Such a good book. Easy to follow, makes sense with relatable analogies and scenarios. I liked the strategies of dealing with specific traits. And my favorite chapter was “when to leave”. It’s always a struggle to know when enough is enough. Great book.

No Toxic People!!!

Serena Ellison has written a great book!!!! and the narration by Stephanie Bentley is excellent.

It seems in recent years the people around us have become increasingly more and more toxic. Just watch the news, listen to interviews or read the newspaper. It seems negativity is everywhere. My wife and I have chosen positivity and a positive approach to help make things better in our lives. But that isn't enough.

Thanks to this book we feel like we have more information to help deal with the drama and defend ourselves from the toxicity in the world. We feel like the first place to stop with toxic people is in our own families and this book helps you understand how to deal with family members that don't have your best interest at heart. Secondly, this book will help arm you with psycological information to make you stronger so you don't fall prey to the negativity that surrounds us all.

This is a great book we highly recommend
