What can a quantum computer do? If we have a sequence of 30 zeroes and ones, it has about one billion of possible values. However, a classical computer can only be in one of these one billion states at the same time. A quantum computer can be in a quantum combination of all of those states, called superposition.

Superintelligence asks the questions: What happens when machines surpass humans in general intelligence? Will artificial agents save or destroy us? Nick Bostrom lays the foundation for understanding the future of humanity and intelligent life. The human brain has some capabilities that the brains of other animals lack. It is to these distinctive capabilities that our species owes its dominant position. If machine brains surpassed human brains in general intelligence, then this new superintelligence could become extremely powerful - possibly beyond our control.

How do today's most successful tech companies - Amazon, Google, Facebook, Netflix, Tesla - design, develop, and deploy the products that have earned the love of literally billions of people around the world? Perhaps surprisingly, they do it very differently from the vast majority of tech companies. In Inspired, technology product management thought leader Marty Cagan provides listeners with a master class in how to structure and staff a vibrant and successful product organization and how to discover and deliver technology products that your customers will love.

Both have reputations for complexity. But the basic ideas behind them are, in fact, simple and comprehensible by anyone. These dynamic and illuminating lectures begin with a brief overview of theories of physical reality starting with Aristotle and culminating in Newtonian or "classical" physics.

What can a quantum computer do? If we have a sequence of 30 zeroes and ones, it has about one billion of possible values. However, a classical computer can only be in one of these one billion states at the same time. A quantum computer can be in a quantum combination of all of those states, called superposition.

Quantum physics is notable for its brazen defiance of common sense. (Think of Schrödinger's Cat, famously both dead and alive.) An especially rigorous form of quantum contradiction occurs in experiments with entangled particles. Our common assumption is that objects have properties whether or not anyone is observing them, and the measurement of one can't affect the other. Quantum entanglement rejects this assumption, offering impeccable reasoning and irrefutable evidence of the opposite. Is quantum entanglement mystical, or just mystifying?

In this 24-lesson course aimed at non-scientists, noted particle physicist Dr. Don Lincoln of Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory covers more than a century of progress in physics, describing exactly how scientists reach the conclusions they do. He starts with the atom, which was long hypothesized but wasn’t definitively proven until a paper by Albert Einstein in 1905. That was just the beginning, as researchers probed ever deeper into the atom’s complex structure, leading to the weird findings of quantum mechanics.

Fascinating and easy to understand!
An exceptional audiobook that takes listeners on an immersive journey through the fascinating world of quantum mechanics. The author really knows their stuff and breaks down these complex concepts in a way that is easily understandable, which is an invaluable skill. And the narrator makes it fun to learn! This book is accessible to those without a deep background in physics or mathematics. I learned so much from understanding qubits to exploring quantum circuits and algorithms. I wish subjects in school were taught in this matter, so incredible to be able to learn such complex, groundbreaking topics

Fascinating and Accessible
The technological revolution of quantum computing is coming in the not-too-distant future. This book seeks to help you understand what quantum computing is and how it might be used. If you know anything about quantum mechanics, you know how counter-intuitive it is, but the author does a magnificent job explaining the fundamentals of the science and how these fundamentals work in the realm of computers. The trick to explaining quantum mechanics to a non-expert is finding useful analogies, and this is where the book really shines. From concepts such as entanglement to how quantum computers are able to find patterns in massive loads of data, the author provides clear and relevant analogies that make the content come alive. The chapter on what quantum computing might accomplish in areas such as healthcare and finance is exciting, while we are also warned about what bad actors can do. As quantum computing may create over 100 million jobs for non-PhDs, it is highly worthwhile to listen to this fascinating book.

excellent information & resources
The book was very current. thorough, and informative with many references. I enjoyed the book very much. An accompanying pdf file with auxiliary information would be helpful. I have listened to this book twice so far and have purchased a paperback copy to help with comprehension. The only concern I had was info towards the end of chapter 7 on quantum communication where it was stated that this could be instantaneous. This goes against everything else I have ever read. While the entanglement proceeds instantaneously, no information can be transmitted faster than the speed of light. Everything I have read on entanglement emphasizes this. (The section I am referring to is on pages 243 & 244 in the print edition or the last 4 minutes of chapter 7 (e.g. Spaceships talking to earth) in the audio edition.
