He follows with commentary on two of Buddhism’s most profound texts: The Eight Verses on Training the Mind and Atisha’s Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment, often referring to the former as one of his main sources of inspiration for the practice of compassion.

In Case You Ever Wondered . . .
like I did, what Buddhism is about--here is an in depth but relatively short overview. It will take up less than three hours of your time. Doesn't cost very much, either.
You might learn, as I did, that Buddha is not there to be worshiped but instead, emulated. This, and many other things you might or might not have wondered about. That alone was a big surprise for me. This is a great little audiobook for the curious. It is a painless way to gain a little more knowledge. If you have any interest and curiosity at all about Buddhism, here is a great way to start. (From the humble opinion of a non-religious person.)

Good Overview for Beginners
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes I sure would. The nice thing about this book is that it touches on the general principles of Buddhism..all facets. I also like that it gave examples and fables helping to understand hard to understand concepts.
What other book might you compare Buddhism: A Beginners Guide Book for True Self Discovery and Living a Balanced and Peaceful Life to and why?
Comparitive to Buddhist Boot Camp, this was much more profound.
What about Dan Gallagher’s performance did you like?
I enjoyed his voice and he did well narrating the book
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No but there were quite a few "a-ha" moments
Any additional comments?
I enjoyed this book and look forward to focusing on the moon...not the finger..

Discovery
As a new and struggling member of the Nichren dishonin sect I found myself struggling with all the superficial trappings. Which in consequence had me questioning the basic philosophy .
My need and desire was to find the way. To become the master of my own mind and to understand and control my life, and the effects on others as an advisor and due to the influence I seem to have on others.
Because people listen to me and respect many of my ideas and copy them. I became concerned that I was doing right. This book has been a great help thank you very much. Monah
