Leo wanted to make something out of himself—and build dams.

However, the world doesn't want dams. And it mostly doesn't want civil engineers. It doesn't want men who do any sort of building or fighting or grand design, it seems.

So, when Leo finds his current girlfriend and boss being threatened by a brutal loan shark and all three of them get dragged through a portal to another world, it doesn't take long for him to decide this is the place for him. Plus, everyone has magic, and who wouldn't want that?

Leo appears in the realm of a fallen kingdom, one that desperately needs someone who will both fight for what's right and build a grand civilization.

Along with his new coterie of friends—a not-quite-a-princess elf and a crippled dragon—Leo must race to build his kingdom before the loan shark Kruegar can finish Leo off with a legion of orcs.

[A litRPG adventure with kingdom-building, base-building, some slice of life, and a whole lot of quipping. Also, an in-depth magic system, leveling options, and an empire chart system. Check out the audiobook that has received over half a million views on RoyalRoad!]

I like the direction the story is heading in and how the Leo helps people grow. My only concern was that this might have been a harem story but the sensibility of the people and the importance on feelings makes me think that the author would not go in that direction.

Loved it.

Ilk to The Hobbit with lots of humor and flavor.

After reading a few reviews I put this treasure on my wait list. Some people just don't know what a great book really feels like these days. This author's planning and character creation is top tier. Each character has a uniquely solid build from strength to flaw. e.g. MC is an engineer but has a SIMP complex for women; the dragon is a power house tank with a self-esteem problem ect ect

Go with my gut, enough with these negative Nancys comments.

Glad I didn't listen to the naysayers

I really enjoyed this universe especially the kingdom building. The MC has a very interesting path.

Great Start

Really like the character building and the relationship development, particularly the dragons! Decent magic system, can get a bit crunchy at times

Great new series

I like the mc voice. Story was simple direct and entertaining. The magic system could have been more dynamic, but I won’t split hairs. Worth the listen. I may circle back for book 2.

Straight no chaser

The narration of the story was fantastic, and the book was good enough to keep me interested. The only thing that I took issue with was the insanely long stat readouts. I understand that litRPGs will have many stat information portions along the story line, but I felt the stats in this book were distractingly long. However, the story was good enough to keep me listening.

Great Narration Good Story

Excellent book!! Very crunchy (at first) and a great build story that surprisingly doesn't get bogged down in details. It's a good story with an incredible narrator. Can't wait for Book 2.

Best city build LitRPG I've read!

Great new city/world building adventure. While there isn't a lot of city building it is a great introduction to the main players who will affect the new city/kingdom.

Great new Kingdom Building adventure.

I did like this story very much. It had great character development and was very detailed. My only complaint was it tended to drag some when it went into the different stats the character could choose for their builds. The overall story was great and kept me entertained. Todd Haberkorn's voice work was A+ as always. Just love how he gives each character a different voice. Really makes the story come alive. I am looking forward to the second book and see what happens.

Great adventure

not in a good way. John Stovall spent very little time providing any back story for the 3 pivotal characters who were somehow whisked-away from present day Earth to a fantasy realm. and whose souls were deposited in to two elves and an orc. The whole book had a lack of depth to the story, characters and leveling system which made it impossible to become invested in it.

If you're looking for a story to last for a long trip, this would fulfill that requirement.

I'll not continue the series.

Todd Haberkorn's narration was okay but his depth for mimicking female voices needs a lot of work.

A different take on a fantasy and ...
