Publisher's summary

After my uncle Fame run his wife off for messing around with his brother, we thought for sure we seen the last of 'em. Good riddance to bad blood, right?

Only, weren't no Happy Ever After in store for any of us. When my errant aunt and uncle turned up dead on Cemetery Hill, was Fame what was arrested for the crime, and me he turned to for help, on account of the long-standing blood feud between him and the sheriff.

I weren't one for keeping my nose outta trouble nohow, but once I started poking around, trouble weren't the only problem I found.

It keeps getting better and better...

I have enjoyed this series and every book keeps getting even more interesting. I really enjoy the main character. She is so brave and stubborn. Her romance with Riley keeps developing slowly and she still has a hard time trusting their relationship.

Narration is outstanding and brings all the characters to life.

There is a lot of family drama going on in this book. Sunshine has a hard time accepting help and wants to do everything by herself. Riley is so patient and loving! Sunshine is one lucky girl!

There are a lot of unanswered questions in this book that I’m hoping will be explained in the next book. I wonder what is the thing she has been keeping in a cage called... I enjoyed this book and I’m looking forward to the next one.

I really love this series!

This book could probably be read as a standalone but it has huge spoilers for the first two books, so if you plan to read the series you should do so in order.

This book picks up right where The Deep Wood left off and it has more action than book 2 did, in fact I'm starting to wonder if Sunshine is capable of remaining uninjured for long.

Sunshine as a character is really compelling, I think it's her attitude towards protecting people 'if not me, then who?' Her generosity of spirit is something to be admired and she's delightfully down to earth. In this book we get another example of exactly how protective Sunshine is of her family and the deep bonds that they have.

If you enjoyed the first two books you'll definitely want this book as well. I can't wait for book 4 and I hope that there are many more to follow.

Once again the narration is excellent, the character voices are fabulous and so is the overall delivery.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Family drama at its finest.

This is the third book in the Sunshine Walkingstick series. This book picks up right where The Deep Wood left off. Sunshine is still hurting from her run in with her grandmother. You would think that Sunshine would try and heal up before she goes out to save the world but she does not.

Sunshine's uncle, Fame, who took a father role when her own father is murder is being charged with murder. Sunshine of course is taking matters into her own hands in order to save Fame. One of the issues that I have with Sunshine is that she does not understand what help means. She refuses to allow anyone to help her in anyway shape or form. She is still carrying around the death of Henry, her son, with her at every turn. She would rather kill herself then to ask for help. She is not realizing that being strong and independent and asking for help is not the same as weak.

This book was good when it came to the plot and Sunshine was more tolerable in this installment verses the previous. She is learning however she is not learning as much as she could. She needs to know that having guilt about the death of her son is not her fault. Riley has told her and she keeps brushing him off. I really do hoop that Celia Roman makes Sunshine grow because currently her character is stagnant. The only thing that is moving along is the new found family that she has. She is cultivating relationships and I have to admit that I love Johnny Walkingstick he is just such an amazing character and I hope that he is more apart of Sunshine's life.

I have a couple of questions that I need answered. 1) What is really going on with Sunshine? What is talking to her in her mind? 2) Will Sunshine ever put out? 3) What is that creature that Sunshine is keeping?

An Awesome Listen

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request, and have voluntarily left this review. This series just keeps getting better. Sunshine is such a refreshing character and the plot is based on normal situation, but the circumstance is far from normal. All the characters in this series are very well written and developed that you find yourself cheering some and booing others. Book 3 ended to quickly and I'm looking forward to book 4.

For the family

Sunshine is back and taking on another mystery from her past, the disappearance of her uncles wife and brother. I love the small town relationships and the way they weave into mythology in surprising ways. The voice of Sunshine's character seem real and is delivered perfectly by the narrator. I feel like she is someone I could talk to at the piggly wiggly. I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Series keeps getting better!

This third book in the Sunshine Walkingstick series is excellent. At this point, Sunny is still insecure in Riley's love for her, and I'm starting to wonder if the author will ever explain exactly why she's so dang suspicious. I hope the author does. As always, Sunny is sassy, loyal, and fearless in protecting her loved ones from monsters of folklore and real life. The narrator is phenomenal. I don't know how she keeps that accent for the whole book!

still enjoying the series

I think maybe this series is just getting better, though it's getting to the point that reviewing each individual book becomes difficult. After all, the voice, characters, world, etc is all the same. I liked it in the past two books and I still like it here. This particular mystery and monster didn't seem quite as important as some of the past ones, maybe because it's a middle book.

I'm still finding Sunshines resistance to her relationship with Riley a bit too much to believe. But I appreciate that the reader sees Riley's frustration with this.

All in all, I'm still all in for Sunshine Walkingstick and look forward to future books and I'm still enjoying Winder's rendition of the books too.

Book 3

Cemetary Hill highlights old time fueds, abuse of legal powers, & injustice that can occur. Sunshine & Riley's relationship is slowly progressing. Sunny once again tracks down the "monster". The story had sone slow spots but overall was an interesting book. The narrator did a good job but needs to work on excitement inflection.
