Publisher's summary

Here's a question for you. What's the most exciting thing ever found in a fire bucket?

And don't say 'fire' because you'll be wrong.

Suppose - just suppose - it was the technology to take a pod to Mars.

Yeah, now we're talking!

Every Christmas, for reasons which seem good at the time - especially after an eggnog or two - Max and the others leap into the nearest pod and indulge in their illegal Christmas jump. It's a tradition. This year, however, just to be different, they find themselves part of someone else's illegal Christmas jump. It's time to don a spacesuit and bring your own urine!

OhMy! My Face Hurts from Laughter!

This along with all the other St. Mary’s books is absolutely wonderful! It’s full of both actual history and altered history. But the dialog is so spot on hilarious that my face hurts from laughter.

I happened to be listening to this while out shopping. That may not have been the best idea since I was of course wearing earbuds. The people out shopping that day kept giving me the strangest looks as I continued to burst out laughing as they passed by! I tried to apologize and show them my earbuds and tell them it was an audiobook but they did not care to hear that. So... oh well. I enjoyed it!!!

BEST SERIES EVER!!!

as always Jodi comes through with humor and adventure with a dose of drama. The problem is she can’t crank the books out fast enough. I wish I had never started these books so I could experience finding them for the first time again!

A disappointment

This is a short story from Taylor’s ongoing time travel series. A very short story. Listening time came in just under 2 hours. Of the two hours, possibly 30 minutes held new material. I didn’t object when the author rehashed background from previous books in her preface, but when characters in the story reiterate exactly the same material, this was obviously padding to meet a required word count.
The actual story about an illicit ‘jump’ to the first human Mars landing was mildly entertaining. However, it suffered from the very tired, overused, body fluid jokes. And, it didn’t help that the author took the narrative voice away from Maxwell. Overall, a disappointment.

You have to wonder. . .

whether to be afraid, (very afraid) or continue to marvel about the inventive mind of Jodi Taylor. Thoroughly entertaining short Christmas offering. Always a good value.

Fun diversion but abrupt ending

Loved this was released on Christmas day, ties in well to the story. The plot progressed nicely, but then...boom it ends.

And now for something completely different

I didn't love this. the screeching voice of the main character was pretty irritating and I found the story stressful.

My Favorite St. Mary's Short!

This is by far my favorite St. Mary's Short! I love the Time Police tie-in / intro to the Time Police as the Time Police series brought me to St. Mary's. I preferred the part of the story that is not told as a story within a story. More of this please!

Better than Battersea Barricades

I don't care for the ones where the story is mostly an interview rather than deep point of view action. We do get part of this story as actual action, so it's better than Barricades was.

Definitely different (in a good way)

Another wonderful selection by Jodi Taylor. This one is about the balance of power between St. Mary’s and the Time Police ... interesting. Looking forward to the next installment of the Chronicles of St. Mary’s!

Different - yes, but still hilarious.

Well, not completely different. The irrepressible irreverent St Mary's humor is there. And lots of it. I also have a new understanding for the Time Police and their headaches in keeping the unruly St Mary's antics in check. :-) A light read. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Not to be missed if you like the St Mary's series.

Zara Ramm - fantastic narration as usual.

Quirky characters in abundance

Hilarious as always. Just loved the new zany character of Director Pinkerton, she seemed quite normal ( and very brave) in the last book she was in but now she's as mad as the rest of them. Its the way she makes astonishing statements as matter of fact. I'd like to hear more of this lady. She's obviously still as brave to stand up to the time police, who in this book merit quite a lot of sympathy.

Another large helping of St Mary's craziness

If there's anything you can always rely on when the St Mary's gang are involved it's that disaster and comical antics are never far away. This particular short story was very much in the same vein as the rest of the series but told from a slightly different perspective in which the events are being retold after the fact in a heated discussion between the heads of the Time Police and that of St Mary's.

Try not to be eating or drinking anything that you're likely to choke on as you read these stories as there's a lot of comical mishaps involved. I'm a big fan of this book series and they always make me smile.

Keep 'em coming, Jodi. Loved the performance by Zara, too. She brings the story and the characters to life. Looking forward to the next one already.

great as a bedtime story

i used this as a bedtime story, the reader's voice is peasant and the plot is light, so you don't need to focus much and stay engaged. otherwise, this is not the series for me, i did not read the first books, i think i stopped with fantasy at Harry Potter (amazing) when i was a child and did not find something here to make me wish to go back and read 28 books (wow).
i picked this initially just because of the title, it's cute and intriguing, without knowing it's meant for children.
it's great as a children's series.

Fun? Perhaps…

I enjoyed the dialogue between Commander Haye of the Time Police and Director Pinkerton from future St Mary’s. Before and after the Mars trip.

I also appreciated Ms Taylor’s foreword.

Not one of Jodi Taylor's best books.

I found the script super annoying and unnecessarily repetitive. I'm not quite sure why this tale ever came to fruition. Zara Ramm did an excellent job on the narration as ever.
