Publisher's summary

There are two activities in life that are essential to one's happiness. The first is to have one's day (to explore, engage, and enjoy life), and the second is to say one's say (to say the words to oneself and/or others that are worth saying).

An Uncommon Vocabulary is an exercise in saying one's say. Simply put, it is an A-to-Z book of common words and phrases that are described in ways better suited to them, in the opinion of the author.

The concepts described herein are working definitions, definitions that can be brought to mind to facilitate one's thinking and actions within particular circumstances.

When a working definition is properly occasioned (brought to mind at the appropriate time and in the appropriate circumstances), advantageous effects flow from it. In this way one's personal narrative (thinking vocabulary) is made richer and more rewarding, and one becomes more coherent and positive in dealing with everyday events.

It would be better as Whispersync

A sequential presentation of words and phrases with interpretations as indicated. An excellent resource for readers and authors alike, as well as useful for those involved in public speaking. See publisher's blurb.
Ms Will did an excellent job of keeping it from being a boring exercise, but it would be better as Whispersync.

Words and Phrases defined in a different way.

Would you consider the audio edition of An Uncommon Vocabulary to be better than the print version?

I haven't read a print or electronic version. I might suggest it would be helpful to have such a visual in front of you.

What was one of the most memorable moments of An Uncommon Vocabulary?

At some point within a few minutes there's a ahh hah I get it now moment.

Which character – as performed by Angelina Will – was your favorite?

This is an idea, thinking book. I didn't perceive a definitive "character". The narration was upbeat and did make for an enjoyable listen

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It's short and entertaining. Personally, I was able to listen in one session.

Any additional comments?

Thought provoking. Entertaining narration.

Interesting take on words

What made the experience of listening to An Uncommon Vocabulary the most enjoyable?

The narrator was a pleasure to listen to.

What about Angelina Will’s performance did you like?

Her voice was melodic.

Any additional comments?

This book is a dictionary. It defines common and uncommon words in new ways. I might have enjoyed it more as a print book where I could jump around at my own whim, but overall it was enjoyable. If you like words and their definitions, you will enjoy this. This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.”

A unique presentation on uncommon vocabulary....

What did you love best about An Uncommon Vocabulary?

The way it presented common and uncommon words through a viable learning listening medium. A great way to expand vocabulary and apply to real life situations.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The uncommon never looked so cool :)

Potential but nothing groundbreaking

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

More depth to the words chosen, such as humerus quips or even a bit of backround to the words that were picked.

What could Jim Boyd, Jr. have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

One thing he could have done was use sentences to illustrate a unique perspective or otherwise.

What three words best describe Angelina Will’s voice?

Perfect for this

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It had great potential but sadly misses so much

Vocabulary Words

What disappointed you about An Uncommon Vocabulary?

Quite simply, some methods are better than others when it comes to building your vocabulary. Unfortunately, I don't consider the method used in this audiobook to be an effective way to grow your vocabulary.

The narrator's method is as follows: state the vocabulary word, and then define the vocabulary word; recite the next vocabulary word, and then define the next vocabulary word, etc.

As an educator, I can tell you that this is NOT an effective way to build your vocabulary! The narrator should at least use each new vocabulary word in a sentence (remember, the narrator merely defines each vocabulary word)!

I was disappointed by this audiobook...

Any additional comments?

I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review.
