Publisher's Summary

Imagine how different your life would be if you knew how to develop the resilience to deal with tough times, whilst effortlessly getting on the path to peace of mind. Stoicism is a timeless ancient philosophy which can teach you just that. Unlike many religious and new age thinking methods, Stoic teachings provide a clear road map on exactly “How” to think, not simply “What” to think. Thus giving its practitioners a way to better deal with the misfortunes and hardships they face.

James Daugherty is an intelligence expert & former CIA Spy who specializes in all forms of human behavior. But there’s one trait which is critical to a productive life, obtaining and retaining a pragmatic and stable mindset. A spy would be worthless without it. Daugherty is a huge proponent of the Stoic philosophies, as a result of being exposed to highly stressful and testing situations over the years. A Stoic mindset is not a luxury for a field agent, but a necessity.

This book begins with a brief introduction about what stoicism is and how to recognize the things that are under our control. After reading this book I have now understand how emotions work and use it properly. But most of all I learn the importance of freedom of will.

it was a good book but way too short. <br />

great read too short. wish it would have been about 3 times longer. I know it was broken down into several books but should be combined. not a fair way to deliver the information.

great resource. glad I picked it up

This book clearly explains how to live a virtuous life and stop worrying about things that you have no control over. You will easily overlook them as the quality and benefit you get from this book is amazing. This book is better than going to a therapist. This is a book you will listen several times and it is the gateway to start listening about all the other Greek philosopher stoics. Indeed, this book is worth the listen!!!

A fresh, practical approach to stoicism

Good, but fairly simplistic primer on Stoicism. I felt well connected and could relate to the thoughts and themes described. I relate well to how the author portrays internal conflict and lack of emotional control, areas i want to work on. This seemed a helpful start, but lacks a lot of substance and was repetitive at times. It also talks about the way of their own lives. Honesty is what makes a man stay on his job.
