Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Jill Shalvis returns to Wildstone with the touching story of finding your place in the world - and the people who make it home.

Piper Manning’s about as tough as they come, she’s had to be. She raised her siblings and they’ve thankfully flown the coop. All she has to do is finish fixing up the lake house her grandparents left her, sell it, and then she’s free.

When a massive storm hits, she runs into a tall, dark and brooding stranger, Camden Reid. There’s a spark there, one that shocks her. Surprising her further, her sister and brother return, each of them holding their own secrets. The smart move would be for Piper to ignore them all, but Cam unleashes emotions deep inside of her that she can’t deny, making her yearn for something she doesn’t understand. And her siblings…well, they need each other.

Only when the secrets come out, it changes everything Piper thinks she knows about her family, herself…and Cam. Can she find a way to outrun the demons? The answer is closer than she thinks - just as the new life she craves may have already begun.

A gazillion stars!

I listened to the audio version of this book and the narration by Erin Mallon was superb and enhanced the story greatly. I love her gravely male voices.
Truly, anything by Jill Shalvis is fantastic. She is able to take stories to a level that just wows me. Her characters are fantastic, the problems are real and the solutions hard fought. The romance is always heart warming but hysterical at the same time. Throw in animals and I'm sucked in hook, line and sinker.
Loved. A gazillion stars!

Just Friends?

On Piper's 30th birthday she meets her neighbor's extremely good looking son, gets caught in a bad storm, let's Cam (the neighbor's son) stay because the river is too high to get home, and her younger sister and brother show up unexpectedly. On my birthday I went next door to see my mother thanks to Moderna and Pfizer vaccines. My birthday was better, it's been a year.

As the siblings settle in old problems and new solutions, both welcome and unwelcome, are suggested and Piper has to learn to accept that the sister and brother she raised are grown with minds and ideas of their own. As Piper and Cam grow closer, Piper has trouble accepting that she deserves to be loved. The tension makes for a really good story.

As with all of Jill Shalvis' books, their is a well constructed plot, the characters are funny, kind, troubled, tough, vulnerable, and believable. Although this is part of a series, the only constant is Boomer, it's nice to bring the stories together.

Very enjoyable book and series.

Nice change of pace

This was a refreshing change of pace from the murders, rapes, crime sprees and horror novels that are in just about every book you read.

Another solid hit

Jill has the gift of storytelling. Her words not only paint the scene and help us visualize. It drags us in. Includes us in family. Her stories foster a strong connection. Her supporting characters are just awesome bonuses to each installment. Loved it!
