Publisher's summary

Former Navy SEAL Nixon Swagger is home. After 12 years of service and twice as many deployments, all Nix wanted was quiet. He’d sought the solace of the land he’d grown up on and found the peace he needed to silence the noise and figure out his next move.

Nixon’s stay was supposed to be temporary. He wasn’t supposed to meet a feisty, headstrong woman who made his pulse race and set his body on fire. Falling in love hadn’t been part of his plan. Taking a government contract to stop a homegrown terrorist group hadn’t been, either, but when the organization threatens to attack Philadelphia, he had no choice but to accept.

McKenna Wilson was living. Every day was the same. Raising her two teenage siblings didn’t leave time for much else. Most days, she was okay with that. Then, she bumped into the sexy war hero and, in an instant, her world changed. She had no idea falling for Nixon would be so dangerous. Now, she was going head-to-head with the small-town’s dirty sheriff who was hell-bent on ruining Nixon and avenging a 15-year-old grudge. She’d lost her heart, but losing her life wasn’t part of the plan.

Nixon Swagger had learned a few things as a Navy SEAL - adapt, improvise, and overcome were among the many. In the middle of an inferno, so ominous even Dante wouldn’t buy a ticket, Nixon must adapt to his new surroundings and overcome multiple threats before he loses the woman he loves.

Great Romantic Suspense…Phenomenal Narration

Audiobook review: I really enjoyed this book. The story was so great and the narration was phenomenal as always with Erin Mallon & Joe Arden.

Really loved how Nixon helped with McKenna and her siblings. I really loved the connection he made with Zach. He was the man Zach needed in his life and he taught him how to work.

While Nixon and McKenna’s attraction was immediate, their relationship grew slowly. They didn’t rush into anything and both wanted to make sure her siblings were ok with their relationship. I loved how she was able to come in and help him with his team and their mission.

I’m definitely excited to continue this series and I truly hope Erin and Joe narrate the other books.

Dixon and Mickie!

Swoon!! I adore this type of suspenseful romance! While there is most definitely drama, and twists and turns. It's not in the relationship which for me made it 100% better. I can't even with how sweet Nixon was with Zack! All the feels!!

The narrators were outstanding! They are both people I look for when considering audiobooks!.

Nixon's Promise

First for me by this author.
I was pleasantly surprised, to be honest with you I wasn’t sure what to expect but I sure did enjoy these characters.
McKenna has just become guardian to her two younger teenage siblings and it isn’t an easy transition.

Nixon lives next door and fines out that his new next door neighbour is McKenna and her siblings.
I love that he takes her brother under his wing.

It did feel a little like insta-love but I am not mad at it because so much happens from the time they meet until the end of the book it’s understandable why we get that feeling.

I like that McKenna understands Nixon’s job what was great was how McKenna became an asset to the team too. I wasn’t expecting that and quiet liked it.

Narration, I love Erin’s narration she just does the voices so well she gives everyone their own sound I love it. Joe isn’t my favorite but I still enjoy his work.
Think I might have to invest in the rest of the series.

fantastic!

This is my first book by this author and it won't be my last! Awesome story and narration. Suspense, passion, and I really liked the push of the message against sexual abuse. Can't wait for the next book!

Excellent Characters with Complex, Riveting Plot

The first thing I thought when I read this book's blurb on a book review site was that the name for the hero was laugh-out-loud funny: Nixon Swagger! What a great last name to give a cocky, former SEAL romantic hero! But I absolutely loved this hero; the perfect book boyfriend. While he's certainly got an edge to him, he is fiercely protective and loyal, and he appreciates a woman who is not stereotypical of the female gender. In fact, the first time he sees her, she's working on a car and impresses him with both her knowledge and skill! That's another thing I liked about this book--and the one that I'm currently listening to by this author--it has a heroine who is vulnerable yet strong and whip-smart while being a total kick-butt in a feminine way. The heroine in this book, McKenna, gives so much. After the death of their parents, she's taken in her teenage half-brother and half-sister, who are struggling with their grief AND have teenage attitude (very realistic!), especially the sister. Part of what makes Nixon Swagger awesome is that he automatically becomes a father figure to them, taking the teenage boy under his wing--helping him both by doing guy stuff with him (like rebuilding an old bike) and imparting the wisdom he's gained in life--and setting the teenage girl straight when she is clearly about to go down a bad path. The heroine is not only unconventional in her choice of hobbies, but she's also an amazing computer genius and later in the book works with Nixon and his guys (former SEAL buddies) to prevent bad stuff from going down. (By the way, that situation was very intense; I felt like I was on the edge of my seat waiting for it to all go down.) The only thing I wasn't wild about in this book is that it has a boatload of profanity. I know that almost seems to be a given in contemporary romance these days--unless it is specifically called clean--but I'm not a fan and would certainly prefer if authors let us know beforehand that a book is riddled with so much swearing. But the characters and the story were so amazing that I was able to not let it bother me too much.

The book has two narrators, a male one for chapters from Nixon's perspective and a female one for the heroine, McKenna. Both did a fantastic job voicing the characters. The male narrator conveyed Nixon's no-nonsense attitude, and the female narrator was able to get across the heroine's strength and vulnerability. If you enjoy military romance with excellent, well-written characters and a riveting plot (and subplots), you will likely enjoy this audiobook as much as I did.

New series

A very impressive start of a new series. Unfortunately it takes almost half the book before the actual suspense gets startet. Nixon is all Alpha and exactly knows what he wants, McKenna - from the first moment he laid eyes on her. McKenna doesn't have time for anything besides work and raising her siblings. So it's very fortunate Nixon's persuasive...
I voluntarily reviewed an audiobook. Fabulously done by the narrators. They have all the emotions down to a t.

Sweet and fun

A really sweet story about former soldier finds his place at the side of an woman who has her plate full and a lot of responsibility. I really like the characters, but would have liked a little more depth on the male MC.

Romantic Suspense Escapism!

I enjoy audio-books that are well narrated and allow me to escape into another world. Riley Edwards manages to do just that with her Gemini Group series. This is a fantastic first book in the series. It introduces the audience to the Gemini Group team but it does not compromise on the story line, which can often be the case with first books. We are also introduced to the town Nixon grew up in and given a bit of his backstory which leads to them main issues in this book.

Riley Edwards has successfully balanced her characters. Nixon is extremely alpha but also has a softer side which is triggered by Mckenna and her two orphaned siblings. Mckenna is extremely capable but also could use a hand with her responsibilities. They balance each other and they balance the story which is just the right mix of romance, suspense and action.

Overall this was an enjoyable listen and I am eagerly looking forward to the rest of the books in the series!

savor the story

Listening to Nix and McKenna's story allowed me to savor the story. I fell in love with this team, this series, on my original read quite some time back. This is the couple that started it all, the couple that is the beginning of the big happy family. I love the strength and life choices that Nixon brings to the Wilson siblings. His cool, calm sureness brings peace to McKenna's brother and sister and that soothes her own soul. Theirs is a wonderfully meaningful and emotional filled journey of love and happiness bringing their friends together to form a family filled with love and joy. The narration team does an great job separating the voices.

This series is such great ride!

Nixon “Nix” Swagger is a man in need of a mission. Recently separated from the Navy Seals, he returns home to his old family farm, neglected after the passing of his father. Thriving on his reputation as a bit of a loner, he thinks that’s what he needs. Until McKenna turns his head and his heart, almost from the start.

McKenna is a brilliant computer engineer, working out of her rural homestead while raising her orphaned half-siblings. She’s not sure what to make of Nix, as he at first lends a helping hand and then begins to integrate himself into her family. There is no denying their chemistry or how good they are together.

When Nix’s former SEAL Team Member comes calling from his new job at Homeland Security, Nix creates Gemini Group. Working on government contracts, their expertise and bravery bring them all immediately back into the fray. But danger can be close to home, as the corrupt sheriff and his equally corrupt son, continue to harass him and McKenna’s family.

This book is such a great introduction to this series. So well-written, both the hero and heroine are strong, independent, and so good for each other. Even when they try to fight their attraction, it’s so obvious that these two soul mates call to each other.

Highly recommend this series. While the books are fine as stand-alones, they are even better enjoyed in order.

Nixon & McKenna

Nixon’s Promise is the first book in the Gemini Group Series and is McKenna and Nixon’s story.
McKenna is feisty, independent and sassy. Nix is protective, caring and hardworking. When the meet in the downtown area of their very small town the chemistry is sizzling and impossible to ignore. By chance they find out they are neighbours and Nix starts helping out in her farm and becomes the male presence McKenna’s siblings need to be able to grieve the loss of their parents. When Nix’s small town past comes to haunt him McKenna and the kids are caught in the middle with severe consequences. But it’s Nix’s Navy Seal past that seals their fate as a couple when Nix’s new formed company hires McKenna as an IT expert.
This book had it all: romance, suspense, banter and small town shenanigans. It also has two amazing narrators that brought these characters to life with their incredible performances.

Meltingly amazing

*sigh*

I’ve read this book, multiple times. It’s actually already one of my favourite Riley Edwards books. I still don’t actually know what I was expecting when I set off on the audible journey though. I’m not (or wasn’t..) a fan of listening to a book be read to me, I’ve tried and failed several times but long journeys are a feature of my life and I do love a romance novel and so I persevered…

Turns out Joe Arden + Erin Mallon + Riley Edwards = awesome.

I honestly loved listening to this book, the narrators were amazing and really brought the story to life. There is no wonder Joe Arden is called the King of F***. There were times listening to this I didn’t want my journey to end, and I found myself fanning my face in an effort to cool down!!

I recommend anyone give this audible a listen, highly addictive, satisfying and thrilling it ticks so many boxes to leave you wanting more.

OK story. Great narration

Audiobook review: This was my first book by this author and I was an OK listen. The narration was on point, but that is to be expected with Joe Arden and Erin Mallon. Unfortunately I struggled to connect with Nixon and McKenna throughout the book. However, the authot can tell a story well, and I do want to listen to the next book.

Loved It!

Who doesn't love listening to a protective Alpha. Nixon's devotion to protect McKenna and her family shone through right away. I enjoyed the pace of the story from the suspense of a secret mission through to the steamy chemistry between Nixon and McKenna. Thank you Riley Edwards for a great story and for casting the perfect narrator team of Joe Arden as Nixon and Erin Mallon as McKenna. I will definitely continue with the Gemini Series as I now have to know more about the new characters I met in this book.

was so excited after reading red team, and then I discovered Nixon. it was just the right amount of angst, ops and security romance.
love the way it moved along at a good pace and the plot line was awesome.
some of Riley's stories are novellas and I don't see the price is worth the hours of listening so was glad to have a good length.
so enjoyed the narrator's they are awesome as always.
