Publisher's summary

Dabu’s life has been far from easy; born with a crippling lung illness, he has never been as strong as his father or brother, both of whom have disappeared after attempting to challenge the Trials of Ancients.

In the wake of the Tyrant King’s war, his village has come under the control of the Purus, a vicious gang of magically enhanced cutthroats and murderers. The Trials offer the promise of power to any who can clear them, but Dabu has been forbidden from entering.

After a violent encounter leaves his family in danger, Dabu faces a difficult decision: either leave the village to challenge the Trials, or stay and risk starvation. The Trials are monstrously difficult, filled with dangerous beasts, deadly obstacles, and tribes of challengers who control the areas within. But if he can make it out alive, Dabu will gain the power he needs to finally drive the Purus from his home.

Age of Ancients contains elements of GameLit such as stat sheets, a form of leveling, and experience gain.

enjoyable story

funny I'd liked the female lead more than daboo, David was still cool but the female leads character was more dynamic in all around more interesting. I hope she becomes something powerful too not just daboo when this storyline is complete

Really you haters!!!

I get so sick of passing up amazing books because some intellectual hater says characters are shallow, or the writing is juvenile. I finally gave this one a chance and I have almost 700 titles in my library. Tons of hidden Gems and this is one of them. If you want to dive into a world with a cool magic system, listen to an interesting journey of a young man with a disability overcoming the odds. Picture a friendship that is forged in hardship and fighting. A young man, and young interesting woman who's skills are leagues above the rest fight against the odds. Give this book a chance it's well worth it. Have I heard better Narrators of course I have. But this man does a fantastic job, and not all men can perfect a woman's voice but it's not hard to differentiate who says what. And atleast he doesn't sound like someone has his nuts in a vice. spend the credit, then buy book two like I did. You won't regret it.

loving this origin story

I had no idea this tied into Rise to Omniscience when I first got this book. I look forward to the rest of this series.

Well...

First off I am a BIG Fan of Aaron Oster, Have all of his books and have enjoyed them all. This one is a mixed bag for me, first off the Narration of the Main Female character is not that good. This is my first listen to KF narration of a book in the generes i listen too. He does well with the male voices. Story over all is good, I have a hard time with people that can't stand up for themselves or Friends or Family. World is cool the MC is not that cool yet, I hope he eats his Wheaties!

This book is a troped up average sack of average

T this book made me mad at how insanely tropey. This damn book checks every single box on the list of tropes out there. It started off decent but then just muddled it’s way through.

Undecided

It’s not a bad story maybe, the MC is lame his power is lame he attitude is lame, he to naive to have gone what he’s supposedly had. Maybe I’m being unfair he annoys me. I’d rather the story been about the girl.

The protagonist was too whiny I could not finish.

The protagonist was too whiny I could not finish. The narrator was good. This was one of the only books I have not finished.
