Publisher's summary

Seventy years ago, the world ended in chaos.

Portals appeared on Earth, forcing everyone to make a choice: Enter or die. However, if they managed to survive through all twelve planets in the system, they would be allowed to return home. Humanity fought bitterly and, in the end, succeeded, but the cost was high.

Nate lost everyone he’s cared about, and after stepping through the final portal, he makes a shocking discovery. Earth is part of the system and what’s left of humanity is too weak to go home. Returning to the scene of the battle, Nate finds the unexpected–a new portal. A single step takes him back in time, to the day when the end of the world began.

Given the chance to fix the mistakes of his past, Nate will do all he can to ensure that humanity–and more importantly, his family–is strong enough to survive this time around. Manipulating events won't be easy. Knowledge is power but, more importantly, in the System of Twelve, power is power.

Rewriting history was never on Nate’s to-do list, but seeing as he’s the only viable candidate, he’ll give it his best shot or die trying.

End of the World is a progression fantasy with GameLit and tower climber elements.

Perfect in every sense

exactly what I was looking for. great narration. I didn't know an audio book could seem so realistic. BUT THE SECOND BOOK. I neeeeed it. NEED. I'm so sad it isn't out yet to listen. I feel itchy having to wait for it. if anyone is reading this, you have to listen to this book. I just found my new favorite series and that's something I never thought I'd say again.

Great story … some plot problems

1. A great story and I will continue the series. But Aaron Oster will need to upgrade his writing.

For example:

-At the first town, Nate has to pay a very high price for only 2 units of water because water is so scarce in that area. But in the next sentence he goes to take a full bath at an Inn for cheap? That’s nonsensical.

-If a human enemy is killed, why can’t they just put the body and loot directly into their storage ring like they can do with literally anything else in the world? They have to leave it on the ground and hope nobody loots it before they can come back later? Nonsense.

-Why didn’t Nate make Freya a set of lightening sloth boots too? He only had a set made for himself even though he had the extra material and could have easily helped her at the same time. She was literally right there with him.

-Reduce the MULTIPLE times the author over uses the phrase “in other words…”. Communicate directly and clearly the first time.

-Worst of all, our MC is incapable of convincing or influencing the leaders of the human city to see the best path to save the human race within the time span of a single conversation so he immediately goes to plan B: murder people and destroy the city! That makes no sense. The best way to keep humans safe is to literally murder them? Aaron Oster, you nearly killed your own epic story with that one and now you have a MAJOR morality problem to correct in the next book. Very Machiavellian and a disappointing story choice.

2. Justin Thomas James. Tiana Camacho and Jeff Hays were excellent storytellers! Thank you

Okay..

So first off, im a sucker for this type of story. The last survivor goes back on time to save humanity, and they usually bring knowledge and strength in the form of experience living in combat zones, but here, the MC is nothing special he just have knowledge that he really doesn't use and when he does its only to "recruit" people . he literally can't win a fight vs. other humans unless he is ambushing them. im still waiting for him to show his 70 years of experience of him living in the system. he got on my nerves too many times, especially when he was leaving enemies behind. tbh i probably won't be getting book 2

Sword Art Online. The Audio Book.

the Prologue of this book is a bit rough, but stick with it. After chapter one it gets better.

if you enjoy stories like Sword Art Online, this book is that same basic story. A mysterious GM forces people into a new life where they have to rely on their power and fellow humans to survive. One man's prior knowledge gives him an unfair advantage that he needs to decide to use for his own benefit or for the good of all.

I'm not a big fan of this author, but this is significantly better than his other works. I genuinely enjoyed listening to this book. there are still a few "Gee... that's convenient" moments and Deus ex Machinas, but the author has gotten significantly better at using them and being subtle than in previous works.

Justin Thomas James is an amazing Narrator and the cast of this book really brings it to life. Fantastic Production.

Pretty good, will continue series

To start, narration was perfect, great job as always JTJ!
regarding story:
Pros: unique'ish plot which was entertaining to unpack.
Fantastic main female character, she has a good sense of humor.
The magic system is fairly simple, and combines two main themes in novels like this "cultivation" and "magician", the first pulls in mana and is primarily melee, the second has a finite pool of mana and is primarily ranged.
cons: Some plot holes and obvious plot armor
the supporting characters are less believable than I would like.
The fights are always ridiculously close calls, and they way they pull through is convenient new skills or scrolls etc.

I still give this full stars though, because I'm being a little more harsh in my review than it deserves, I just think it's fair to point out anything bad I might have come across. The narration really makes the book shine I promise

actually really good

I was pleased to.find just how good the story was. it was strange and a quite a bit different than typical, and that made a big difference. as always the crew from SBT knocked it out of the park, no surprise there hahaha. all in all, I really hope we get a second installment in this series.
