Story
Tracker is known far and wide for his skills as a hunter: "He has a nose", people say. Engaged to track down a mysterious boy who disappeared three years earlier, Tracker breaks his own rule of always working alone when he finds himself part of a group that comes together to search for the boy. The band is a hodgepodge, full of unusual characters with secrets of their own, including a shape-shifting man-animal known as Leopard. As Tracker follows the boy's scent, he and the band are set upon by creatures intent on destroying them.

Opaque. And hard to care about.

You will hear more about this series
I am definitely swept up in the transcendent force that is Marlon James and Dion Graham. I saw Neil Gaiman described the setting as "hallucinatory," and I havenāt heard a more apt description, but donāt let that fool you into thinking this is an aimless, vague, or overly literary effort. It is absolutely riveting: My "listening hours per day" have more than tripled since I started listening to Black Leopard, Red Wolf. Word is Marlon James spent a long time researching African languages as well, and Dion Graham just nails all of the different accents. But the merits of Grahamās performance arenāt limited to language or accents. In every minute there is a new threat, a new scheme, and a new astoundingly unique voice; be it beast, witch, demi-god, or amorphous liquid assassin. I can only imagine Graham took a good break after this performance because the sheer number of different voices would put any narrator to the test, and he aced it.

One of the best S-F novels I've ever read!!!
- By Michael J. Mcmorrow on 02-17-19
Superb character-building
I am such a sucker for good world buildingāthe kind that reveals itself organically over the course of a story firmly grounded in the experience of its charactersāso as it turns out, I didnāt stand a chance against the deft writing of Charlie Jane Anders. In her latest standalone novel, the Hugo and Nebula Award-winning author imagines a world split into a scorching permanent day and a bleak, frozen night, with only two remaining habitable cities in between. Less practiced writers may let such a vividly imagined world do much of the heavy lifting in this story, but Anders puts her characters center stage, exploring the concepts of time and power to spin a tale of survival, hope, and human (and nonhuman) connection. Jennifer OāDonnell and Laura Knight Keating provide a captivating dual narrationāa structure I also canāt resist. Andersās previous Nebula Award-winning novel, All the Birds in the Sky just made it to the top of my TBLT pile.

Story
Kihrin is a bastard orphan who grew up on storybook tales of long-lost princes and grand quests. When he is claimed against his will as the long-lost son of a treasonous prince, Kihrin finds that being a long-lost prince isn't what the storybooks promised.Ā He also discovers that the storybooks have lied about a lot of other things, too: dragons, demons, gods, prophecies, true love, and how the hero always wins.Ā Then again, maybe heās not the hero, for Kihrin is not destined to save the empire.Ā Heās destined to destroy it.

Bloodlines and battlefields
There's nothing like getting sucked into a truly epic fantasy story and that's exactly what Ruin of Kings delivers from the moment you start getting to know the cheeky young Kihrin, following his journey from orphaned street rat to long-lost heir to a royal house to on-the-run savior (or destroyer) of the world. Narrators Feodor Chin, Vikas Adam, and Soneela Nankani seamlessly pull you into a world full of wizards, dragons, demons, and witches, all made believably real thanks, in part, to the all-too-human motivations of the characters. It all comes together to make this series starter come alive in the most delicious ways.

My 1st "6 Star" Rating in Two Years--fun, smart
- By C. Hartmann on 02-03-19
Stupendous narration
Colin Morgan narrating as brilliant as ever! He narrated so many different characters with accents and tones. He voiced one character Moses so brilliantly that I thought it was another actor Phil Davis but it's all Colin.
The story itself is amazing. R. R. Haywood has done a fantastic job with the words, the plot and the characters. Everything about the book is intriguing.
