Publisher's Summary

Even before he could move, the full realisation of what confronted him blazed in the Pharaoh's mind. This was the foul and loathsome thing that Taita, with his clairvoyant powers, had smelt in the air. The light was strong enough for him to make out every detail of the enemy he had loved as a friend.

The magic of the gods. The treachery of man.

In his long life, Taita has gone from slave to warlock, and now his wisdom and abilities are known throughout the kingdom. But even his immense skills cannot protect those close to him from the evil that lurks at the heart of Egypt: Lord Naja, self-proclaimed Regent until the Prince comes of age.

Taita must summon all of his formidable gifts to protect the true ruler, the young prince Nefer - grandson of Queen Lostris. As enemy forces join together to bring destruction to the whole land, it is no longer a matter of simple magic. To defeat the false Pharaohs, the gods and armies must share their powers with a mortal warlock....

Love it!

I absolutely love this book. I have read it over and over for over 15 years! It wasn't until I downloaded it on here did I realize it was part of a series. Now I'm downloading the rest of the series!!

After book 1 it's all down hill

Seems like this author puts a lot of time and effort into his first book.,but the follow up is very weak and predictable. I've started 2 different series now and it has happened with both.

Should have stayed with same narrator from 1st boo

I like the book but hate the narrator in this 2nd book of the series. Dick Hill was a much better narrator and more skill with doing the voices and accents of the different characters. Due to me going from River God right to this book it is really throwing me off and making it difficult to get into the book. It’s like they went from a five star narrator to a 1 star.

Excellent listen

My only bugbear was the lack of chapters, makes it annoying when trying to find your place when you’ve drifted off to sleep.

Spoilt....

.....for me, because there were no chapter breaks. By this I mean the whole 26 hours was on one line, this made going back incredibly difficult, especially when I fell asleep & had to try & find my place again.
The story itself was good, not quite as good as the first two but not bad.
Going for book 4 - which bothers me a bit because while I've book 6, Pharaoh, downloaded ready to play I don't seem to be able to find book 5 on Audible....... anyone any ideas?

Immersive Warlock

Having no affiliation with Eastern names, made remembering who was who at first, but as the story grew, I became immersed as the unfortunate horses in the quicksand of the desert! I did not know that there was such a monster as the desert quick-sand! I felt I was drowning! But I knew Wilbur would save me! After all, I AM the hero of this spellbinding story! Now, hasten on, as I unfurl my golden wings, to see what else awaits me! The Glencairn Tribe, maybe?
