Publisher's Summary

UnMarket to build trust and make lifelong customers!

In 2009, Scott Stratten and Alison Stratten wrote the best-selling UnMarketing: StopMarketing, Start Engaging and began a journey that would take them around the world, sharing their message of engagement with corporations, entrepreneurs, and students.

They are now back with this second edition, because everything has changed and nothing is different, with all the brilliance of the first edition, plus new content and commentary to reflect the rapidly changing landscape we all live, buy, and work in today.

For generations, marketing has been hypocritical. We've been taught to market to others in ways we hate being marketed to (cold-calling, flyers, ads, etc.). So why do we still keep trying the same stale marketing moves?

UnMarketing shows you how to unlearn the old ways and consistently attract and engage the right customers. You'll stop just pushing out your message and praying that it sticks somewhere. Potential and current customers want to be listened to and validated and have a platform to be heard - especially online. With UnMarketing, you'll create a relationship with your customers and make yourself the logical choice for their needs. We know you've been told to act like other people, talk like other people, and market like all the people, but it is time for you to unlearn everything and start to UnMarket yourself.

UnMarketing includes the latest information on idea creation, viral marketing and video, marketing to millennials, authenticity, transparency and immediacy, ethics and affiliates, social media platforming, unPodcasting, word of mouth, customer service, consumer advocacy, and leadership, with examples of what to do and what not to do from small business right up to worldwide corporations, in areas such as real estate, travel, service, retail, and B2B.

Just What I Needed

I've been a teacher for eleven years and I recently decided to give that up and go after a dream I have had of teaching girls and women to surf. I knew I needed help in the whole business-running-department. "Unmarketing" hit the bullseye for me. They had me with the story of the guy cleaning the carpet who stopped what he was doing to welcome them to the hotel they had just entered. This made sense to me - that we are all people looking for other people to connect with, I recently had this over-the-top experience customer service experience when I was flying on Virgin Airlines to Ireland, They get it and lots of airlines don't. They treat you like they want you on their airplane. That's how I am going to run my business. Thanks to the Strattens for keeping it real.

If you're booking for inspiration

I love the book. This is actually the 2nd time I've listened to it and look forward to hearing it again. The ideas that are shared and provided have helped me look at operating and marketing my business in a completely different manner and it helped me improve in many areas. Thank you so much

NOT for digital marketers!

If you know a little about online marketing already this book will bore you to death. The content was so basic to me as a marketer that I couldn't even finish the entire book.

Easy to follow & understanding Marketing tips

The book presents Marketing concepts that are easy to understand & follow. They seem common sense, which explains why it's easy to follow. The main thing to take away, is to implement what you've read/heard!

The best Un-book I ever Un-read

I loved this audiobook. I’m going to treat it like a reference manual and listen to it on a regular basis - especially before Trade Shows and new-business pitches The advice is spot on and the anecdotes are hilarious. I reference it to often, my colleagues are getting tired of hearing “Scott Stratten says...”.

The best of the best Audio books for business owners

Every day at 10am I place my one year old either in his buggy or the car to take him for the daily morning nap. I truly love this time as I get my steps in and I get to pop On a podcast or Blinkist What I love about Blinkist is that it breaks down books into 15-20 minute highlights There’s nothing worse than starting a book and realising a few chapters in that it’s not worth your time and money. With UnMarketing I was hooked 12 blinks in and I knew I needed to invest in the full version I was making notes already and implementing them into my business (Boostly) I never write reviews of books, but this is different I feel like I’m the last person to discover this book and this couple I’m now on the unarmy list and can not wait to discover more Takeaways - get back into twitter - take off one month from BDM and instead focus on each and every customer directly via a message , Facebook , email or phone call. - get a survey created and sent out - write my own book You will not regret this purchase

Same same, but different in such a good way.

I really enjoyed this, it 100% helped me refocus my philosophy on how marketing works.
