Publisher's summary

Mary Jekyll and the Athena Club foil a plot to unseat the Queen and race to save one of their own in this electrifying conclusion to the Locus Award winning trilogy that began with The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter.

Life’s always an adventure for the Athena Club...especially when one of their own has been kidnapped! After their thrilling European escapades rescuing Lucina van Helsing, Mary Jekyll, and her friends return home to discover that their friend and kitchen maid Alice has vanished - and so has their friend and employer Sherlock Holmes!

As they race to find Alice and bring her home safely, they discover that Alice and Sherlock’s kidnapping are only one small part of a plot that threatens Queen Victoria, and the very future of the British Empire. Can Mary, Diana, Beatrice, Catherine, and Justine save their friends - and the Empire?

In the final volume of the trilogy that Publishers Weekly called “a tour de force of reclaiming the narrative, executed with impressive wit and insight” in a starred review, the women of the Athena Club will embrace their monstrous pasts to create their own destinies.

I NEED Book Four!!

By book 3 I feel like I am following the lives and times of good friends. The backstories have been so incredibly well written that I am invested in every character (with the exception of the one I think of as comedy relief). If you love gothic and victorian literature characters from Rappaccini, Jekyll, Hyde, Moreau, Frankenstein, Adler and Holmes just to name a FEW..... you will love this mashup of speculative historical fiction set at the height of spiritualism...and vampires. I can’t believe I almost forgot Lucy and Mina, you will find this new original yet respectfully written series wonderful. The attention to detail of the Etiquettes and even the lives of the household staff is remarkable.

One of the best Narrators I’ve heard in awhile especially given the fact that this could have easily had multiple actors.

If there is not a book four in the making I will be extremely disappointed

More please!!!!

Loved it!!!! All 3 books are fabulous. I really love the "interruptions" in the narrative. The performance is outstanding. I want to listen to every book she has narrated. I also want to become a member of Athena Club.

Beautiful novels

These stories are simply wonderful. They are original, and you can't help but love all of the characters. I truly hope there will be many more.

A Great Finale

If this is how the Athena adventures end, which I hope it is not, it was a remarkable finish. Combining classical characters with a dose of social commentary and the unique and wonderful narrative style of the Athena Club made for a perfect capstone to an amazing trilogy.

Love the series

I love this series! However, I don't think this was as good as the first two-too many characters! I hope the next book is better

I didn't like it quite as well as the first two.

I really like the series, and I still gave 5 stars, but I'm not sure why I wasn't captured as much toward the middle and end on this one vs. the other two. Still, this is a minor thing.

New Favorite Series!

This is my new favorite book series. The way Ms. Goss takes characters and stories that we think that we know and spins them in beautiful new ways is truly enjoyable to read. The perfect escape.

These were/are wonderful stories. Kudos to the author — please write another. I listened straight through all 3 books, they were so engaging.

very good.

A good read but like the last book in some trilogies a little laboured and run out of steam.
