Publisher's summary

In Cathy Lamb's gripping and thought-provoking novel, a woman whose memory is shattered must piece together her husband's secrets - and reevaluate her life, love, and relationships.

When Natalie Shelton thinks back to how things were before the car accident, she remembers a great marriage. She and her husband, Zack, seem as strong and dependable together as the houses he builds. They live in Portland, Oregon, and Natalie is co-owner of a successful accounting firm. They're happy, she's almost sure of it.

Yet as Natalie lies trapped in a coma, unable to communicate though aware of everything around her, she realizes that her husband is hiding something. Zack has always been reticent about his past, which she attributed to an unhappy childhood. Now the strange calls he's receiving, the apologies when he thinks she can't hear him, and her fragmented memories from the morning of the accident suggest a deeper secret.

When she finally awakens, Natalie is determined to find out the truth. Sorting through clues as her brain heals, she realizes she has a rare opportunity - to reexamine the life she's made and the man she's made it with. But as answers come to light, she faces surprising, heartrending decisions, as well as a danger that could upend her world once again, as Zack's past finally catches up with them.

Not too bad but My Goodness why so long

When she woke up I had 9 more hours to go. And the book is 12 hours long so can you imagine my what now!
My goodness! Why all these stories within stories. I had to speed listen for this one. It was not too bad but too much unnecessary dialogue

Pleasantly surprised !!

Wasn’t sure if I would be able to get into this as I’m not into the typical sappy “beach read”… but this was really enjoyable! I had just binged a bunch of thrillers so the slower pace on this was fine for me. Like hanging out w these lovely people. Is it feel good and idealistic? Sure. But the humor and the characters come alive enough to pull you in and make you laugh. I’m even going to have to go find a print version or rewind to write down that rewritten “Lord’s Prayer”. I about fell over w laughter . And I loved how there was humor and respect when she was in the “center”… won’t call it what she does bc no spoilers… but man that could have taken a wrong direction writing that part with so much humor, but it worked.

This had faint reminiscence of Fannie Flagg books…

Meh….

This book was predictable, and sometimes painfully idyllic. I was able to listen to the whole thing with a mild amount of interest. Not the worst book I’ve ever listen to, but definitely not the best.

Great intense thriller love story

Cathy Lamb does it again; she keeps me on the edge of my seat! I enjoyed listening to the story and Morgan did a wonderful job narrating. I enjoyed how it was not predictable and kept me wondering how it would all turn out! I love all of Cathy‘s books and I can’t wait to start the next one!

I wanted to like this!

This book started off SO STRONG! And it would have been the perfect book if only the author would have stuck to the plot. But God bless, she went EVERYWHERE! We learned things that had NOTHING to do with the story. I actually stopped listening with 4 hours left. I skipped to the last chapter, learned who the bad guy was and why (because it’s revealed in ONE LITERAL SENTENCE)…and then I wrote this review. Save your time!

This packed a punch

There was so much packed into this one book and nothing I anticipated. I am a mystery, crime, thriller reader who enjoys suspense, twists, and medical jargon. I don't mind the occasional love story thrown in as it is part of life, but this story gripped me from start to finish. It wasn't just the interesting dynamic between the husband and wife but more all the other relationships in the story that held me. The reality of life and how it played into the characters in this book was fascinating and relatable.

Not so much..(actually too much drivel)

I enjoyed the storyline, but the middle part was long, torturous and a little ridiculous. Maybe it was supposed to be a comical and fantasy-like, but to my knowledge, I don’t think head trauma (TBI) recovery is anything like it was portrayed in this book.
I did carry on because I liked the characters and I knew it must be leading somewhere. The end was satisfying, which gave this book some merit.

I loved so much about this book!!!

I thought is started out slowly but having read other Lamb books knew I’d like it. I loved the character development, every character was well put together, quirky and played their part well. The author clearly has an understanding of what the person would go through and come out of in a coma, or similar situation, where someone had a traumatic accident or sickness in their lives when EVERYTHING was turned upside down and taken from them and what is was like to rebalance their new reality. There was depth and compassion and understanding. The book was written with much humor, some drama, a lot romance and some thriller aspects. I’ve had long Covid for two years so I have had a lot of down time and have listened to many audible books, some a lot better than others. This is one I looked forward to getting back to every time I set it down. I love this author, and will read more of her books.
