Publisher's summary

From the New York Times best-selling Author.

Can God be revived in a skeptical age? What would it take to give people a spiritual life more powerful than anything in the past? Deepak Chopra tackles these issues with eloquence and insight in this book. He proposes that God lies at the source of human awareness. Therefore, any person can find the God within that transforms everyday life.

God is in trouble. The rise of the militant atheist movement spearheaded by Richard Dawkins signifies, to many, that the deity is an outmoded myth in the modern world. Deepak Chopra passionately disagrees, seeing the present moment as the perfect time for making spirituality what it really should be: reliable knowledge about higher reality. Outlining a path to God that turns unbelief into the first step of awakening, Deepak shows us that a crisis of faith is like the fire we must pass through on the way to power, truth, and love.

”Faith must be saved for everyone’s sake,” he writes. “From faith springs a passion for the eternal, which is even stronger than love. Many of us have lost that passion or have never known it.” In any age, faith is a cry from the heart. God is the higher consciousness that responds to the cry. “By itself, faith can’t deliver God, but it does something more timely: It makes God possible.

For three decades, Deepak Chopra has inspired millions with his profound writing and teaching. With The Future of God, he invites us on a journey of the spirit, providing a practical path to understanding God and our own place in the universe. Now, is a moment of reinvigoration, he argues. Now is moment of renewal. Now is the future.

Critic reviews

"Dr Chopra's work will be talked about for a long time to come.” (Hans Peter Duerr, Scientific Member and Director Emeritus Max Planck Institute for Physics and Astrophysics)
"As Deepak explains, Dawkins’ materialism is the delusion, not God. Eastern spiritualists, Western constructivists and quantum physicists agree - the mind shapes, if not creates, the world." (Stuart Hameroff, M.D., Professor, Anesthesiology and Psychology Director, Center for Consciousness Studies The University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona, www.quantumconsciousness.org)
" The Future of God is a brilliant exposition for the need of consciousness-based reality." (Menas C. Kafatos, Fletcher Jones Professor of Computational Physics at Chapman University, and co-author of The Non-local Universe: The New Physics and Matters of the Mind)

Deepak Chopra and his words on religion, faith, and spirituality have impacted me greatly and I intend on listening to this book for a second time.

Affirming Intelligent &Inspuring

A complete joy to read and contemplate. Chopra has met the call for reason centered faith theology and spoils atheism's claim on rationality.

Chopra wrote this in response....

to Richard Dawkins' The God Delusion, a virulent bit of atheist grandstanding that has gained attention more from cranks than serious thinkers. It also came in the wake of Dawkins ambushing Chopra in a tabloid-show style in what he wanted to pass for an "interview." (Chopra claimed he talked with Dawkins, despite the ambush, for three hours, only to have Dawkins chop it up into three minutes of the latter sneering and jeering, and then Dawkins slapped the title "Enemy of the Truth" on the thing and posted it on youtube. Chopra defended himself on television, and then, despite being perfectly justified and not nearly as aggressive as Dawkins, showed himself the bigger man and posted an apology video himself...) I say all that to say this: Dawkins, Dennett, Hitchens (one cannot say "rest his soul," I suppose), and Harris have gone from being legitimate critics of certain aspects of religion to mocking atheist fundamentalists which blind themselves entirely to the deeper aspects of spirituality and metaphysics of any kind and poke fun at anyone who does not agree like bullies in a schoolyard they now consider to be solely their territory... I must say that Deepok Chopra is not my first choice as a defender of things spiritual (try reading some Dietrich Bonhoffer, Luther or Karl Barth, or even Emerson or James), but The Future of God (perhaps a play on Freud's Future Of An Illusion) is a book that had to be written for its time. I give this book five stars for its message and because it pushes back at the current tide--not because I think Chopra can never be a bit flaky or too ethereal or vague (although he makes some definite points in regard to consciousness and the spiritual in relation to science and physics. Having had my time with Buddhism, I think the idea that the entire universe and everything in it is conscious, and that we are just certain manifestations of that consciousness makes perfect intuitive sense, even if you can't put it in a test tube.) I guess at last I will say this book can perhaps save us a bit from becoming too jaded, too cynical, too one-eyed in our approach to the world--and perhaps even the enlightened Christian can keep from throwing the baby Jesus out with the bath water.

A decent look at spirituality today.

Philosophical musings. A thought provoking look at spirituality, dissecting it from religiosity and defending its relevance for today and tomorrow. There is something for everyone here regardless of religious persuasion. A justification against skeptics. In terms of the rendition, Chopra's voice is quite monotone and therefore not very emotive. That said don't let this on its own defer you from listening to the content.

Great Book with Valuable Information

I will admit that the book started off slow. As I listened further everything came together. Deepak does not disappoint.

Intriguing perspective of God

I was captivated by the way Deepak so clearly put forward both sides of the divide. Listening to The Future of God, through Audible, allows me to listen while visualizing the concepts presented. This book is a gift to me, my loved ones and my coaching clients. I am now better able to put into words, how my feelings and beliefs about Spirituality keep me positively moving to deeper and deeper levels of being.

Best Since How To Know God

Richard

Chopra remains an insightful genius and even if you don't agree or don't want to agree with him, you are hard pressed to defeat the logic of a man who isn't really trying to convince you. Truth is self evident and Chopra gently prods you to embrace the truth and open yourself to the possibilities. You can always go back to non-belief, but I bet, if you actually him, you won't.

God's new makeover

What made the experience of listening to The Future of God the most enjoyable?

Deepak Chopra voice and the insights he uniquely integrates with his science and philosophy. Writing a book such as this demands a comprehensive insight into issues andPracticalities as well as inspired wisdom. The term repent means to "rethink" This new book from Deepk Chopra is a timely reminder that we are in the midst of an evolutionary renewal in which the global dialog/experience of humanity together with the insights we have gained from personal revelation and insight over the past 5,000 years combined with the synergy from our growth as a species and as mindful beings allows us to collectively review our definition of Spirit and Soul and the spiritual experience. In an enlightened civilization science itself has the potential to actualize and extend spiritual insight ((consider a Hubble telescope image of a new galaxy or spiral nebulae..) Or in the research which shows in double blind scientific studies that prayer or meditation or love or intention can be mapped in the brain during an FMRI session?

Much of the Baggage that religion has carried for centuries and millennia is being jettisoned away and we are in a new spirit a new renaissance of enlightenment processes including using the scientific method to bring about more awe and reveal more potential

We now have the potential as individuals and as a society to embrace what works and dialog and discuss what does work as far as "practical spirituality" and in "transcendent spirituality.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Future of God?

The final insights and conclusions We are redefining the term God.But also the incredibly insightful reviews and endorsements by top scientists and experts on the Amazon reviews section...

Omnipotence and Omnipresence and Omniscience may seem like grande terms but beyond a deity or daunting God or authority figurehead there is a new realization of the greening of "God " stuff....

We now find these above concepts being revealed in the laboratory from non locality to remote viewing and so forth.

Which scene was your favorite?

The many stories that Deepak tells of historical backgroinds in faith and religion many of which inspired and many which are black stains on the term "God"

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

God Evolves

Any additional comments?

Another excellent blend of Deepak Chopra's incredible insights into the elements we all need to realize that God is a truly functional term...needing an overhaul in its definition and practice... I have waited for over a year now for this book and I am truly inspired by the content of Future of God.... and in that our future......as a species discovering its larger self. transcending old boundaries and as a result finding true compassion and synergy and therein creating a new Earth and new world and for ourselves a new Life potential.

a must read!

I loved this book! I love deepak chopra ! I thank God for is insight and his intelligence. everything he says resonates to the core of my Being with a Capitol B. I wish everyone I know, and don't know, for that matter, would read this book . He is so right when he starts off by saying that in order to really understand who or what God is, you first need to make new neuropathways to think about it different from which you were taught in the past. I love the melding of science and spirituality, I can't get enough of it.
