Publisher's summary

A graveyard late at night wouldn't seem like the ideal place to meet someone. But for teenager Katey McCoy, that encounter with the handsome stranger with the striking blue eyes would alter her life in ways she'd never imagined.

Orphaned as an infant, bounced around foster homes, labeled as a discipline problem, and now under the thumb of an abusive foster mother, Katey's been slipping deeper into depression. Who would want a girl with such an ugly face, an imperfect body, or wild hair? But Logan Keith knows the truth about Katey: she's beautiful. Her flaws are in her head. Besides, he has issues, too. And a secret that could tear apart their growing relationship.

Logan is a werewolf - a loup-garou - with his own troubled past and a flaw that's considered a handicap in his world. A secret, supernatural world he soon introduces Katey to. Although Logan longs to make Katey part of his pack, it may be impossible for them to be together. In his pack's history, there's never been a female werewolf. No woman has been able to survive the transformation. Will Logan's desire give Katey the escape to a better life and the love she's always dreamed of, or will he be signing her death warrant?

Captivating small town story with Depth & Intrigue

Had to download the sequel immediately, this book was fabulous! Slow to start, befitting the small town gentle character that becomes intriguing quickly. Love the depth of character throughout the pack, the contrasting personalities bring depth to a small group. Very excited to see where book 2 takes us...

Decent story, needs polishing, but flat narratiom

Concept, characters and overall story is good enough to keep me listening, if a little rough and overwrought. It seems like an unpolished work and made me think that with a good editor, it could have been great. I'm excited to see how this author grows.

Narration has a flat, almost monotone sound - like the narrator was just reading - that makes the unpolished story sound worse... it wasn't intolerable but it wasn't pleasant, either.

The enigma

This book was fun to read. Werewolves and a pretty damsel in distress made a good story.

Different shifter story—good different

The teacher/ student dynamic was really interesting to me. And the mysteriousness of Logan was a good hook. Later in the book, at times, I wanted to grab Katey and shake her for being so unreasonable. But that just made me want to hear how it all ended for Katey and Logan. Narrator did a good job with the accents. With all the guys in the book, and it being read by a girl, it helped to distinguish between which character was speaking if it wasn’t already written.
I enjoyed everything about this book and I will definitely be listening to the rest of the series as well.

don't know if I can finish

what is a Vietnamese waltz? the narrator doesn't pronounce certain words correctly and sometimes speaks as if she is reciting a grocery list. The author overwrites practically every sentence as if a thesaurus is changing a word in every sentence into a 25 cent one.
