Publisher's Summary

Whatever has happened to you, it is not who you are.

The world may know Chris Duffin as the "mad scientist of strength", but you wouldn't have ever guessed that if you saw the scrawny kid skinning rattlesnakes and chasing dragonflies in the early '80s. The story of his unconventional life will take you from gripping tales of murder, trauma, heartbreak, and survival deep in the Pacific Northwest wilderness all the way to an idealization of the self-made man - still flawed, but never broken.

In The Eagle and the Dragon, you'll follow one man's journey into the darkness of his own heart and witness the transformation of alcoholism, pain, and defeat into vision, character, and victory. Through Chris's powerful self-realization, you'll see how the human spirit can be either shackled by circumstance or freed from it.

Are you ready to walk through the fire and make your vision a reality?  This audiobook will show you how.

Incredible story of growth and transformation.

I have casually followed the author for several years on various social media platforms, but the extent of my knowledge of him was his accomplishments in strength and his direct and driven attitude. Learning about his upbringing was jarring for me. I was raised in poverty as well and many of the experiences Duffin faced in his youth were similar to my own. At several points in the book, I burst into tears and had to stop reading. I have always found power and value in identification. Knowing we are not alone, even in our aloneness, can often be a catalyst which forces us to step out of apathy and self pity. We become more connected with our own humanity and realize, ideally, that inspired and passionate action can deliver us from the restraints in which circumstances beyond our control have placed on us. This book, more than any book I’ve recently read, has done that for me. Duffin’s story, the entire time I was reading it, has inspired me to continually ask myself whether or not I am living up to my full potential or even anywhere near it. The book provides a reasonable and simple framework based on experience with which we can work towards our full potential. Furthermore, as someone who is working constantly to be better in a wide variety of areas, I find myself besieged by well-meaning people encouraging me to find a healthy balance. I believe strongly that prioritizing balance at this stage in my life would render me impotent in my ability to push through the challenges which lie ahead of me. However, Duffin seems to be on the other side of those types of challenges. He seems to have cultivated a balance that works for him and is based around restoration and leads to further productivity. Framing balance in the manner in which he does at the end of the book has reshaped my thoughts on it and given me something to not only strive towards, but look forward to as well. I’d like to thank the author for his vulnerability and steadfastness in the creation of this book.

More than a meathead

I met Chris at a seminar that he speaks about. The man is more than a meathead. He has an intense look in his eyes and his size make him an overwhelming specimen to look at. When you talk to him though he engages you fully. He is a genuine person in a world who is always trying to impress others. Reading, or should i say listening to his story is incredible.
Take away is you are not your circumstances. Read this if you're having or know someone with a rough patch in their life.

Inspiring, motivational, fulfilling

I just finished reading his book and i HIGHLY recommend. Even if this book doesn’t reach to you in an inspirational way his whole story is interesting as its self. Last November i was on staff duty and out of boredom started watching videos of lifting. I ran across Chris Duffin’s YouTube channel and I was so drawn to his passion for powerlifting and the knowledge that he brought with it. I have worked out for a couple years prior but after this staff duty shift I was set on heavy lifting. By favorite part about his YouTube channels is he digs deep into the most basic foundations of lifting and explains every little aspect of it to detail so you fully understand the intent and purpose. Anyone who lifts whether you are a beginner or even an expert should check out his videos. And once again , HIGHLY recommend reading his book. You won’t regret it.

Knowledge is Strength

This book is fantastic. I listened to the whole thing in one go and am so happy I did. The entire book is crafted in a way that gives you insights to Chris’s life as well as the lesson he learned from each instance. I highly recommend this book for anyone committed or interested in fitness or health. Chris manages to balance the biographical and teaching aspects perfectly.
