Publisher's summary

The first book in the beloved Regency romance series, The Treasure of Surrey.

“Regency romantic suspense at its page-turning best.” -- RT Book Reviews

“It is not just a ruby, as you say. It is large as a quail’s egg, still untouched and unpolished. And it is rumored to either bless or curse whoever possesses it.”

Camille Iverness can take care of herself. She’s done so since the day her mother abandoned the family and left Camille to run their shabby curiosity shop. But when a violent betrayal leaves her injured with no place to hide, Camille must allow a mysterious stranger to come to her aid. Jonathan Gilchrist never wanted to inherit Kettering Hall. As a second son, he was content to work as the village apothecary. But when his brother’s death made him heir just as his father’s foolish decisions put the estate at risk, only the sale of a priceless possession -- a ruby called the Bevoy -- can save the family from ruin. But the gem has disappeared. And all trails lead to Iverness Curiosity Shop -- and the beautiful shop girl who may be the answer to his many questions.

Caught at the intersection of blessings and curses, greed and deceit, these two determined souls must unite to protect what they hold dear. But when a passion that shines far brighter than any gem is ignited, they will have to decide how much they are willing to risk for their future, love, and happiness.

“An engaging Regency with a richly detailed setting and an unpredictable suspenseful plot.” -- Library Journal

“A delightful read, rich with period details.” -- Sarah M. Eden, best-selling author of For Elise

Exhilarating and Tender

This book is one of my new favorites. She really depicts the hardship that one can face in family relationships, and how healing can be had. The love showed is one of willing sacrifice, which is a love she has never truly known. Sarah does it again with a romantic mystery with complex human struggle and healing.

Clean and something different

i enjoyed the story very much, different from a lot I've heard lately.
I'm sorry to say that i didn't enjoy the reader very much though. She seemed to want to rush through the book, which ended in a rather monotone, sometimes emotionless way of reading, to my ears.

Pleasantly Surprised!

Love the story, love the writing, love the acting! I am getting to be quite a picky reader as I read more and more great books, so I was pleasantly surprised at the well planned storyline of this book, and on top of that, the writing is utterly seamless. Sarah Ladd pulls you into the story starting in the very first chapter and keeps you wanting to know more the entire way through. I haven’t had a book keep my attention so well in quite some time. Very fun read, looking forward to the next one!

Kept me engaged

The story was done well and I liked her style of writing. I could picture the story unfolding in my mind's eye. I liked this story because it was not too religious. However, beware, I got another one of her books and it was like sitting though church. I like wholesome but hold the religion please.

Story was OK but the narration

I story was ok I guess. It was a little slow and tried to be a little to bit too philosophical in the end. It’s hard to say how much I may have liked it if it were not for the absolutely horrid narration. I saw this was produced by audible so I thought that was a safe bet. I slowed the reading down as much as I could just do I could follow the story. There was little to no variety or distinction in voice/ characters. Overall just badly done.

Good

The story was ok, but not one I would read again. The narration seemed rushed, and I had to slow it down to keep up. The narrator was good, but sometimes there wasn't enough difference between the dialogue that it was confusing.

A bit slow...

Any additional comments?

I thought this book was a bit too slow and predictable. It was a nice, easy, slow listen. The reader was fine.

it was pleasant, drawn out but okay of a story

narrator voice never changes except for one 1 or two accents barely in story. nice voice but not fitting for characters. story dragged on and was just a silly story, nothing to really catch your attention. finished book only because of using my credit on it.
