Publisher's summary

What would you be willing to betray in exchange for your freedom?

Trystan was once the pampered daughter of a wealthy aristocrat, but since his death, she's considered a social pariah. Trapped by her stepmother's malicious web of lies, Trystan is willing to do just about anything to escape - even play a part in a devious plot to disinherit the kingdom's incompetent heir, Prince Ramsey.

But what should have been a simple task proves to have sinister implications. The consequences for Trystan's actions become clear in the midst of the glittering royal masque, where two very different princes compete for the hearts of their people. Trystan must decide where her loyalties lie - with the man who may be able to save her kingdom, or the man who has stolen her heart.

It's a lot of responsibility for a girl with no godmother in sight, but with so much at stake, Trystan can't afford to give up. Will she betray her kingdom to make her dreams come true? Or will she sacrifice her own happily ever after for the sake of the man she loves?

Unique Twist on Cinderella with a Good Narrator

The audiobook narrator does a really good job. Esther Wane is one of my favorite narrators for fairy tales. So glad at least this first book is in audiobook to get me started on the series, even if the others aren't.

THE MASQUE OF CINDERELLA

AN AMAZING STORY ABOUT A YOUNG WOMAN WHO BEFRIENDS A LONELY YOUNG MAN NOT KNOWING HIS IDENTITY. A MASQUED BALL WITH TRAITORS. IN THE MIDST, A WONDERFUL ADVENTURE ABOUT FORGIVENESS, BELIEVING THAT YOU ARE WORTHY AND STAYING TRUE TO YOUR MORALS EVEN IF IT WILL COST YOU THE MOST YOUR HEART HOLDS DEAR TO YOU. AND A LOVE THAT WOULD STAND THE TRIALS OF TIME AND HISTORY.

lots of similarities to diff Cinderella stories

I enjoyed this book. I loved the bits & pieces similar to other Cinderella stories. examples: the way that they met reminded me of "Ever After" and the step mother's secret that later gets revealed reminded me of "A Cinderella Story".

overall I enjoyed these little similarities as well as the originality of making the story more "realistic" like how it could have happened if it was a true story.

cute story

I wanted a nice, cute, romantic adventure and this did pretty good. I enjoyed this first section the most, the middle was a little bland and ending was ok.

I easily finished it and I like the idea of interweaving the various stories from book to book. so I do plan on listening to the next one...at some point.

this wasn't my favorite cinderella retelling, but I was entertained and am interested in the rest of this fairytale series.
