Publisher's Summary

From the author of Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour, a powerful novel about hope in the face of heartbreak.

Taylor Edwards’ family might not be the closest-knit - everyone is a little too busy and overscheduled - but for the most part, they get along just fine.

Then Taylor’s dad gets devastating news, and her parents decide that the family will spend one last summer all together at their old lake house in the Pocono Mountains. Crammed into a place much smaller and more rustic than they are used to, they begin to get to know each other again. And Taylor discovers that the people she thought she had left behind haven’t actually gone anywhere. Her former best friend is still around, as is her first boyfriend…and he’s much cuter at 17 than he was at 12.

As the summer progresses and the Edwards become more of a family, they’re more aware than ever that they’re battling a ticking clock. Sometimes, though, there is just enough time to get a second chance - with family, with friends, and with love.

Work of art that made me laugh and cry.

A masterpiece that swallowed you into her world to feel everything she felt. I've never felt so in sync with the character of a book before. I felt her nerves, her happy moments and her loss like these feelings were originally my own. 👍🏾👌🏾

I SOBBED OKAY

A real, heartbreaking story of the deterioration of a loved one. It's a story that really hit close to home for me, and the end stages mirrored what I had experienced. Now it's 3:40 am and I'm hugging my cat who would much rather be sleeping in peace or playing in the toilet. I'm a wreck. If you want to feel feels, step up and check this out.

Yes For Second Chances

What an emotional and beautiful story! The love was slow burning and realistic and I loved how all the characters balanced each other out. I teared up multiple times. Loved!

Awesome!

I don't usually write reviews. This book was so well written, intensely emotional.
I loved how the characters evolved and would love for there to be a sequel to this book. a few years later. Taylor and Henry's love story and how everyone else has grown and the changes in their lives.

Perfect summer read

Or in my case the perfect winter read when I wanted to feel like it's still summer. I knew going in that it wasn't going to be a light read; it was after all dealing with death but the difficult topic was handled beautifully.

The description of the evening before the Taylor's father dies.

What about Brittany Pressley’s performance did you like?

the way she describes the complexity of the characters' psyche.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Of course it made me cry (in spite of the fact that, being a tough guy, I pretend I never cry :) )

I loved it!

Would you listen to Second Chance Summer again? Why?

I found myself caught up in Taylor's world. I found myself laughing, nearly crying and I felt her character grow, throughout the story. Good read but won't give away details!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Taylor. She holds characteristics that I once held at her age. Her flight instinct from a problem, is something I'm still working on to this day.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Taylor's father passing really moved me, after losing my mother 5 years ago. I could identify with her feelings.

Any additional comments?

I also loved Taylor's father's sense of humor. His bad jokes made me laugh and made his death all the more painful toward the end because you begin to really love his character.
