Publisher's Summary

Tamsin Greene comes from a long line of witches, and she was supposed to be one of the most Talented among them. But Tamsin's magic never showed up. Now 17, Tamsin attends boarding school in Manhattan, far from her family. But when a handsome young professor mistakes her for her very Talented sister, Tamsin agrees to find a lost family heirloom for him. The search—and the stranger—will prove to be more sinister than they first appeared, ultimately sending Tamsin on a treasure hunt through time that will unlock the secret of her true identity, unearth the sins of her family, and unleash a power so vengeful that it could destroy them all. This is a spellbinding display of storytelling that will exhilarate, enthrall, and thoroughly enchant.

Critic Reviews

"[MacCullough] has created an enormously sympathetic character in Tamsin, whose itchy relationship with her family will resonate with teens struggling to define themselves. Characters, setting, conflict—all develop nicely to create a light urban fantasy that goes down easy and will have readers asking for its sequel." (Kirkus Reviews)
"With the glut of contemporary romantic supernatural tales, this will be popular, but the action, drama, and great potential for compelling sequels set it apart from the crowd." (Booklist)
"MacCullough's writing is evocative without distracting from her story; readers will identify with Tam's desire to create a space away from parental expectations and take comfort that even extraordinary families make mistakes." (Publishers Weekly)

well written

I really liked this book! The plot kept you listening and the characters really pull you in. I felt the end was really rushed and there wasn't enough describing the circumstances and actions that had taken place. I'm not sure if it was over editing or if it's left that way to be pick up in a hopeful sequel. Either way I enjoyed it enough to anticipate another!

Missing content

I read along with my audio whenever I can. I was shocked that both the prologue and epilogue are both missing from the audio versions. The thing is, they are very important to understanding the story. Very strange decision. The narrator got the Job done and the story was OK. I'm still deciding whether or not I will check out the next installment. I like a little closure with the books I read and this book leaves many unanswered questions.

I will listen to future books in this series.

The story line is fun to follow and grows as you read on. The reader is easy to listen to.

Great Story

The author has a greal deat of talent. Making this a good read for both teens and adults, smoothly, without leaning more one way or the other. I could relate to the heroine (even as a 29 year old) and I was routing for Gabriel (the romantic interest.) She intertwined witchcraft and time travel easily, much more easily then you would think. It does touch on underage drinking and smoking. But neither condemns or approves of it, it just...is apart of the character. The story had this organic and natural feel to it. I certainly hope they continue the storyline.

Worst Book

Chose this book by it's cover that was my first mistake! The writing is terrible, the narrator swallows and you can hear it throughout the book, and it is very predictable.
