Publisher's summary

When Alix's charismatic girlfriend, Swanee, dies from sudden cardiac arrest, Alix is overcome with despair. As she searches Swanee's room for mementos of their relationship, she finds Swanee's cell phone, pinging with dozens of texts sent from a mysterious contact, L.T. The most recent text reads: "Please tell me what I did. Please, Swan. Te amo. I love you." Shocked and betrayed, Alix learns that Swanee has been leading a double life - secretly dating a girl named Liana the entire time she's been with Alix. Alix texts Liana from Swanee's phone, pretending to be Swanee in order to gather information before finally meeting face-to-face to break the news.

Brought together by Swanee's lies, Alix and Liana become closer than they'd thought possible. But Alix is still hiding the truth from Liana. Alix knows what it feels like to be lied to - but will coming clean to Liana mean losing her, too?

I liked it

What made the experience of listening to Lies My Girlfriend Told Me the most enjoyable?

The plot line is probably the best part. Pretty touching. Moving? I'm not sure what the exact right word is to use but I kind of felt something.

What other book might you compare Lies My Girlfriend Told Me to and why?

I don't think I would exactly compare it to other books but if I had to make a reach (within my scope of knowledge) I might compare it to Hood by Emma Donoghue. It's similar in major plot themes, sorta kinda???

Have you listened to any of Christine Lakin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I haven't. I am not jazzed about this one though. Her voice is just not my style. I appreciate her hard work though!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

If I was the crying sort maybe I would have? I'm basically dead inside though so don't go by me. This is a moving story.

WTF are "text minutes"?

Cute story about first love and first betrayal. The only parts that pulled me out of the story were the way the protagonist talked about using her cell phone. She would type a text, decide not to send it, and then say she "ended the call" or once she mentioned going "over her text minutes"... it just served to remind me that the author is from a different generation. "My phone rang, it was a text from her. Why would she call me now?", was it a text or a call?

I like the authors books. I have three of them and I honestly like her work so far! The story itself was really good and it gave me all of the feelz! if I had to recommend ONE of her books, this one would be it!

DO NOT WASTE A CREDIT!!!

This story is terribly predictable and completely transparent. Some of the actual writing is above mediocre, but what a boring story. I skipped chapters just trying to get to the "good" parts, and the ending was as bad as I thought it would be. It started out interesting at least?

more than a romance novel

It held my attention the whole time. The narrator's voice was perfect for the character portrayed.

I loved that this novel stressed ideas like love, commitment, and honesty. I think these ideas need to be taught to young gay people so that they can grow up to have strong healthy relationships and families.

Very slow moving

I found this book very slow moving, and just couldn't get into it. The narration was acceptable.
