Publisher's summary

Boys are so much better in books. At least according to Merrilee Campbell, 15, who thinks real-life chivalry is dead and there’d be nothing more romantic than having a guy woo her like the heroes in classic stories. Then she, her best friend, Eliza, and her younger sister, Rory, transfer to Reginald R. Hero Prep - where all the boys look like they've stepped off the pages of a romance novel. Merri can hardly walk across the quad without running into someone who reminds her of Romeo.

When the brooding and complicated Monroe Stratford scales Merri’s trellis in an effort to make her his, she thinks she might be Juliet incarnate. But as she works her way through her literature curriculum under the guidance of an enigmatic teacher, Merri’s tale begins to unfold in ways she couldn’t have imagined. Merri soon realizes that only she is in charge of her story. And it is a truth universally acknowledged that first impressions can be deceiving....

A Cute HEA

A Date with Darcy may be the cutest audiobook I listened to this year.

I am a big Tiffany Schmidt fan and adore how she writes romance. I am also into retellings of classical books (see: The Duke of Bannerman Prep) and taking a historical story and turning it modern. A Date with Darcy combines the best parts of Tiffany’s romance writing along with a retelling!

There are some points in life where you just want to listen to something light and fun - A Date with Darcy is that book. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, while also bringing in elements from classic stories we read in high school.

Plus, the main character’s motto is “boys are better in books than in real life.” Accurate.

If you’re looking for a HEA, you’re going to find it in Tiffany’s books. I can’t wait for book 2!

So much witty humor!

I would definitely recommend listening to this book (versus visual reading). The reader Jessie Gill adds so much to the heroine Merrilee's voice. I didn't like how Jessie performed the male character voices at all though. But because her performance of Merrilee's character was so good, in the end I've decided the audio experience would be superior to the reading a hard copy. This book was so full of funny mishaps, humorous banter, and protagonist internal commentary. Loved it!

Five stars for Jessie Gill

The story got off to a bit of a shaky start but about 1/4 of the way in I was hooked. The narrater makes it a 5 star read, so talented!

The Story Gets Better if You Listen to 300

The story is very much PG and great for young listeners, even the performance is voiced to sound young. While there is quite a bit of nasally voiced characters, it is distinguishable that not all characters are. You really are within the head of a 15 years old and the characters develop and lot more in the second half of the book. You have to survive the first half of the book, but the ending is really what all clean romance novels are made of. Villains become the greatest support beams and the dashing hero sometimes becomes the villain. Moral of the story is don’t judge a book by its cover, or a person by first experience.

cute

pros: the story line was hilarious I laughed so much the writing is well done but wish I had read the book verse listening to it.

cons: the narrator's voice is so annoying she makes all the girls sound whiny and nasally and the guy sound like stupid Surfers very very hard to enjoy the storyline when you can't stand the voice of who's reading it it sounds like nails on a chalkboard absolutely did not enjoy the narrator's voice at all

Color me surprised. Three and a half ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2⭐️

The story is cute and funny and maybe ultra sugary but not unexpected. I wanted that kind of read.
It started slow and kind of annoying but then, I just couldn’t stop till I finish it. Made me laugh out loud a few times. The writing was decent and even good, color me surprised.
