Publisher's Summary

Jackie does not like surprises. Chaos is the enemy! The best way to get her successful, busy parents to notice her is to be perfect. The perfect look, the perfect grades - the perfect daughter. And then… Surprise number one: Jackie's family dies in a freak car accident. Surprise number two: Jackie has to move cross-country to live with the Walters - her new guardians. Surprise number three: The Walters have 12 sons. (Well, 11, but Parker acts like a boy anyway.) Now Jackie must trade in her Type A personality and New York City apartment for a Colorado ranch and all the wild Walter boys who come with it. Jackie is surrounded by the enemy -loud, dirty, annoying boys who have no concept of personal space. Okay, several of the oldest guys are flat-out gorgeous. But still annoying. She's not stuck-up or boring - no matter what they say - but proving it is another matter. How can she fit in and move on when she needs to keep her parents' memory alive by living up to the promise of perfect?

Excellent Exceptions

This book is hard to put down. Tragedy to beauty. Walk a mile in Jackie's shoes to realize the things around you and other people's tragedies affect them too. Then, find peace once you accept the change.

Just so shallow

I was in the mood for something somewhat innocent, Young adult-ish. The premise of this book seemed interesting. However, what could have been a really interesting idea was never flushed out. The characters were all extremely shallow. Most notably, Jackie, the protagonist. She just lost her entire family in a car crash at the start of the book and it really delved no deeper into those feelings of grief or remorse. Her guardian, the woman who is supposed to be taking care of her in this horrible, tragic time of her life, does absolutely nothing to protect her from the cruelty she endures at the hands of the people living in her home. There’s absolutely no significant interaction between this adult mother and a 16-year-old girl. Every interaction was just too shallow. The entire story was completely vapid. The love triangle was absurd. Just a fail all around. I like fan fiction and this reads like one of the worst ones I’ve ever read.

A Great Read

I enjoyed reading this book it has love and loss and it's about a girl trying to find herself now that she has been displaced from everything she once knew. However, I do think the narrating voices could have been a little more distinguished and not so flat with little emotion...and as for the story while it was a really good story, I felt like there was a lot that occurred in just 18 chapters....very busy...

Audible Brought a New Life to Novel

What made the experience of listening to My Life with the Walter Boys the most enjoyable?

I've read My Life with the Walter Boys on Wattpad and as an actual novel before I found it on Audible. I enjoyed the novel then, but listening to it on Audible increased my pleasure of this book. Renee Chambliss portrayed each character exactly how I imagined them to be during her narration. She put the same inflection on the words that I heard in my head when I was reading it the first time. It made this experience that more enjoyable.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

I was a bit disappointed in the ending. It is left a bit wide open for me and I wish there was more.... could be because I wasn't ready for it to be over. I feel like a part 2 is needed.... hint hint - Ali Novak - hint hint....

Which scene was your favorite?

I can't tell you my favorite scene because it will spoil the novel and I sure do not want to do that. What I can say is that there were many that made me smile and laugh and many that made me feel sadness. It was well rounded.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

This was a book I wanted to listen to all in one sitting. I'm very thankful I have a work environment that allows me to listen to audible books, so I was able to do so.

Second Book NEEDED!

Would you consider the audio edition of My Life with the Walter Boys to be better than the print version?

I wouldn't know because I don't have a print version.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jackie and Cole and maybe Danny and Nathan.

What about Renée Chambliss’s performance did you like?

I love how she literally became Jackie.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

For sure this book keeps you wanting to keep going and not to stop.

Any additional comments?

I believe there needs to be a second book to explain what is was kike for Jackie going back to see her friends in New York. As well as seeing what Danny will be doing in Theater. Finally what the Walters are doing and how Jackie and Cole will set out to do and school life. This book is really left for interpretations so you don't get answers for what everyone will be and how life was set out for them.

Good for YA, but a bit sweet for my taste

This was a sweet coming of age novel very firmly in the YA category. If you are looking for som adult in your romance, skip this one.

Lots of ups and downs.

The story idea itself was not bad but drug along. Lots of emotional ups and downs that helped make the characters feel more real. I couldn't help but feel irritated with the main character at times, especially when dealing the boys interest's. The biggest disappointment was the ending though. Hate reading books with no closure and boy did this story leave you hanging.

Incomplete

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I was disappointed in this book. I thought that it was going to be a 'coming-of-age' for a young lady who lost everything but most things felt unresolved. The story was cute but i think it could have been much much longer and gone into more details with her inner struggles and romantic struggles.

Would you recommend My Life with the Walter Boys to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes & No. Yes, to a girl who is a teen or tween. If you are looking for details and resolutions then no.

What does Renée Chambliss bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She gives voices to charters and gave emotions...

Any additional comments?

This is a great teen/tween book. It is not too deep and really doesn't make you think too much. fairly basic but a cute storry.
