Today we think statistics are the enemy, numbers used to mislead and confuse us. That’s a mistake, Tim Harford says in The Data Detective. Even the smartest among us can feel inept as we fail to figure out which light switch or oven burner to turn on, or whether to push, pull, or slide a door. The fault, argues this ingenious - even liberating - audiobook, lies not in ourselves, but in product design that ignores the needs of users and the principles of cognitive psychology. The Design of Everyday Things shows that good, usable design is possible. The rules are simple: make things visible, exploit natural relationships that couple function and control, and make intelligent use of constraints.

Story
Through her global consulting projects, keynote speeches, and work with thousands of leaders, Karen has seen first-hand how a pervasive lack of clarity strangles business performance and erodes employee engagement. Ambiguity is the corporate default state, a condition so prevalent that “tolerance for ambiguity” has become a clichéd job requirement. It doesn’t have to be this way.

Highly Recommend If You Want Better Presentations
I am impressed with this book! I've been looking for tips and tricks to present data. This book does a great job explaining different graphs and charts. It's presented in a way where it's not boring like a textbook. She provides tactics to enhance your storytelling when using data and identifies the important info to highlight. So glad I came across this! This was very well written and narrated!

Love it
It was a bit hard understanding the graphs without the PDFS. But the narrator clearly stated what was on the graph in her PDF such as axis titles, data point labels, colors etc. I actually downloaded the PDF since it was confusing without. At that point the information stuck much better. I am new to data science, and I'm glad this focused on the visual aspects of design and the narrative. It kept things simple for me. I would say this book is a very good beginners guide to working with data visualizations.
