Seekers control the elemental forces of the world and must climb the World Tree for ultimate power. Dren, a ragtag thief from a dystopian world, is dropped into a land teeming with gods, monsters, magical creatures, and more.

Dren has nothing. He’s tenacious. And charming. Yep, that’s about it. But pluck can only get you so far when gods collide.

A great mix of LitRPG and sci-fi!

I couldn’t put this down and listened all day. Great characters, interesting story and fantastic narration all made this an amazing listen.

So damn good...

great fantasy and new story... the magic capability is a little vague, abs power level is open to interpretation pretty often... but especially the choice acting is fantastic

Entertaining Characters

I am really loving the story and the characters. The dialog often makes me laugh out loud! I also really dig the glasses character. It really gives a neat impression of how an augmented reality game could be realized and how awesome that would be.

Vox forever xoxoxox

My favorite charater is Vox. The narration is well done. Narrator has different voices for the characters. My favorite voice is the glasses.

Wow crazy good!!

Well, let me start by saying… It’s good. Like SURPRSINGLY good!

How so? Hmm, well, I most look for character driven stories and this book had that in SPADES!

Let me start by what usually disappoints me in LitRPGs:

-Characters kills EVERYTHING, “murderhobo” style and has NO interesting creatures, and sometimes I even end up feeling bad as it’s an endless slaughtered
-a LOT of litrpg has no real depth in MC besides power hungry and they have some OP ability (Spoiler: Dren does get A LOT stronger, but no OPness so I was on the edge of my seat if he was going to win or lose often)
-side characters are just boring cardboards cut outs and can’t connect

Luckily I felt the opposite with Skythief:
-In the first few pages, Dren shows compassion. Sure he’s a tad conflicted and WANTS to only get power, but he uses his cleverness to get out of sticky situations and get stronger, which was awesome to see WIT and stubbornness prevail over just sheer “OPness”
-Things are cleverly “set up” by the author, no dues ex machina
-Has tons of heart in side characters

So overall, it feels like a quick story (which is crazy b/c it’s 16+ hours and def a fully fleshed story), but even in that quick amount of time I CONNECTED with the chars. I felt like Dren, Vox and Kara - the main trio - showed real depth of character that surprised me, especially for a first book in the series.

I took a risk seeing it as fbook post in a LITRPG group for code giveaways, and very glad I did. Just joined the Patreon too for insider updates ;D Anyway, that’s it!

LONG STORY SHORT! DEFINITELY worth the credit! If you like LitRPG and read Dakota Krout, Dungeon Crawl Carl, or Primal Hunter, I think you’ll love this debut

Worth it for the last 25% alone

Fantastically Fun Characters.

I look forward to seeing how the magic system is continued to be developed in the future books.

Great narration. I mean it was delightfully well read.

The story really came together in the end. Felt a little disjointed at first, but the last quarter of the book really grabbed me.

good story

this was a good story, Matt did a good job on starting this adventure. I can't help but find the comparison between the LITRPG He Who Fights With Monsters. The leveling systems and some of the descriptions are close. Now don't take that wrong because you can find many similarities on a genre when you listen to enough.

Sky Thief takes you on a nice start to another realm of magic and fantasy with entertaining characters. It's an intriguing take when the super-powerful can't outright run rampant and your MCs are pretty entertaining people. It's almost like mixing Riyria mixed with Vox Machina with a dash of HWFWM ontop.

Post Apocalyptic, Isekai, Tower Climber LitRPG

This book ambitiously combines a lot of sub-genres of LitRPG very well. The post apocalyptic beginning was a good introduction to Dren and Vox. Things really picked up when they isekai’d to a world with original game mechanics that almost feel like cultivation levels. The characters are really cool and have some unique characteristics that they gained from their own world. It is more tree climber than tower climber but still fun. The story was compelling and the world building immersive. Kramer was the perfect narrator for this book. Bravo.

Love this RPG story

I can’t not wait for Book 2.
This is a great take on a RPG story. I love all the characters. and of course having Kramer reading takes the story even higher.
