Publisher's Summary

Cynical, quick-on-the-trigger Takeshi Kovacs, the ex-U.N. envoy turned private eye, has changed careers, and bodies, once more, trading sleuthing for soldiering as a warrior-for-hire and helping a far-flung planet's government put down a bloody revolution.

But when it comes to taking sides, the only one Kovacs is ever really on is his own. So when a rogue pilot and a sleazy corporate fat cat offer him a lucrative role in a treacherous treasure hunt, he's only too happy to go AWOL with a band of resurrected soldiers of fortune. All that stands between them and the ancient alien spacecraft they mean to salvage are a massacred city bathed in deadly radiation, unleashed nanotechnolgy with a million ways to kill, and whatever surprises the highly advanced Martian race may have in store. But armed with his genetically engineered instincts, and his trusty twin Kalashnikovs, Takeshi is ready to take on anything...and let the devil take whoever's left behind.

Broken Angels is the second Takeshi Kovacs novel. Don't miss the first, Altered Carbon, or the third, Woken Furies.

"Summary is better than the book"

Too much introspection not enough action, slow pace. Easy to get bored or lost uninspired

    "Masterful"

Might be Mr Morgan's finest work. Hard to go wrong with any of his stories, but this one includes a rich (Martian) anthropological twist that has the listener peering more deeply backward into the future, than the other TK series do. As always, Todd McLaren's narration is super on point, breathing life and familiarity into the cast of characters. Binge-worthy and highly recommended!

Just as good if not better than the first. Im excited to see how Netflix portrays the world's the author has built.

    "1st one was better."

I liked this book, although not as much as the first one. I guess I felt like so much more could have been done with the story.

"Not nearly as good as Altered Carbon"

I don't think he kept Kovach (I never know how to diem the characters' names in audiobooks) true to character. he has his own moral compass, but in this book it spins every which way. Altered Carbon was fantastic. this was finem

"You listen because of the first book"

The first book in the series makes this book worthwhile, but the book does not quite stand up on its own. The series are detective novels of a sort and so the end of the book does do a satisfying job of wrapping all of the pieces up. However, the book does not give anything to you much until then and the journey feels a bit long. The gratuitous sexual scenes from the first book are present but more juvenile. The heavily violent scenes are described in a less immersive and less graphical way and have lower shock value compared to the first book.

The end feeling from the book is that the first book in the series was the author's love child and the second is the result of him feeling like he needs to write another book. You see the same trend with music and sophomore albums. The second album is rarely as good as the first and is often worth skipping unless you really like the band. Same effect here.

"Not as good as 1st but intriguing"

Interesting story line but nothing like the first book. Found it somewhat confusing. The author seemed to skip over details occasionally I felt like I missed some world building chapters. I couldn't always follow the political nuance.
the Kovacs character is great though, needed a stronger female lead like the first book though.

"Not 'Altered Carbon,' but still pretty good."

So whereas Altered Carbon was a sci-fi homage to oldschool hard-boiled detective noir, this was more of a sci-fi homage to 'The Dirty Dozen'. But its still Morgan's entertaining, violent, sexually explicit prose here (and I say this in the most appreciative sense). I am becoming a real fan. Narration is similarly excellent. Recommended.
