Welcome to Los Angeles - where anger, hunger and disease run rampant. Jonny is a black-market dealer in drugs that heal the body and cool the mind. All he cares about is his own survival. Until a strange new plague turns L.A. into a city of death, and Jonny is forced to put everything on the line to find the cure... if it can be found on Earth.

Great narration and story. Would like to listen again. Story complex, rich with detail, honed with a sweet edge of pulp sci-fi. Beautiful writing.

Classic Cyberpunk

This book eats, sleeps, bleeds the cyberpunk aesthetic. With a lot of references to classic sci-fi, intersposed with relatively poetic writing. I enjoyed the story, and the setting and characters were all wonderfully stylized and functional. The only complaint I have is that the overarching plot I found hard to follow.

Cyberpunk to the core

Mandatory reading for cyberpunk fans.
Distopian LA is a great setting.
The book feels like the next step in cyberpunk, or the last step- as it doesn’t have the cliches one might expect.

What did you love best about Metrophage?

It is just archtype cyberpunk. I'd put this up there with William Gibson or walter Jon Williams. It seems a bit dated now, but he nails the genre so perfectly you can't help but love it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Metrophage?

Just the imagery throughout the story is worth a listen all by itself. The story and characters are great but the author pays such attention to every little detail. It's mind-boggling.

Have you listened to any of Peter Ganim’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not heard any other performance of Mr. Ganim's previously. He has a rich smooth voice and has a good range of voices. I'd love to hear him on some other books.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Metrophage. LA is in flames.

Any additional comments?

This is a great book. Be advised this is not Sandman Slim. The tone and writing are much different , but excellent nonetheless. The story has a few explict sex scenes and lots viloence and drug use (staples of cyberpunk literature). So, definitely not for the kiddies. I strongly recommed this book if you love cyberpunk.

This is how Cyberpunk should be done!

Purchased to complete all of the author's Audiobooks; Sandman Slim without snark or redemption (or any likeable qualities for that matter). Supporting characters killed or written out Ending ambiguous.
