Better the second time around

If you could sum up Wicked Intentions in three words, what would they be?

Sexy, riveting, charming

What other book might you compare Wicked Intentions to and why?

House of Rohan series by Anne Stuart are similar, the rest of this series.

Have you listened to any of Ashford MacNab’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to all of the current Maiden Lane books, 4 of them voiced by Ashford. She does a fantastic job. Her voice is probably one of my favorite too listen to. She is calming, doesn't go overboard with her male voices, the voices for each character is distinctive. I would say she does as skillful a job on this one as she does on the rest of the series.

Would absolutely love to have her come back for the rest of the Maiden Lane series.
Emma Taylor was bloody awful (yes I listened to that book again, and found I couldn't even come close to finishing the listen) and again I will state I will not be purchasing the next book in if Emma Taylor is narrating it.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

First time I listened to it no, it took a few tries to get into the story, but once I started listening it was an almost non-stop listen. The second time, I ended up listening to it almost in one sitting. Had to get some sleep though so I stopped for the night at around 4am. /giggle

Any additional comments?

If you like racy sex scenes, without bombs bursting in air and strong characters then I highly recommend this book. Lazarus does takes some getting used to and his affliction is never explained fully but Elizabeth Hoyt does a great job telling a story of damaged people without going into the realm of wimpy or whiny. Her characters generally know what they want and go for it. There isn't a lot of hemming and hawing so to speak, at least it didn't feel that way to me.

This is an excellent start to a very good series.

Narcissistic Pervert lead male role

Damn it! I wish women would quit being drawn to this type of jackass. Got so irritated by the sick narcissist cat playing with his poor empathic mouse...the excellent mystery got lost. The saints and sinners, whore madonna theme is boring.

Good for a book on sale

I read the other reviews before buying this book and wish I hadn't. I think they gave me too high of expectations. The book was okay, but nothing special. I wish I could give it 3.5 stars. It was a little boring at times, but overall an okay story. The characters were fairly interesting. If the 2nd book in the series is on sale, I will probably get it too, but I won't waste a credit on it or pay a big price.

The narration was quite good.

First book by author

This was my first book by this author. It was a 3.5 with a steaminess of 8 (1-10) the names of the family both the orphans and The heroines where very cheesy. Some of the verbiage did not flow well to my ears but for some reason I kept listening. I may read the 3rd book about Silence ( yeah bother cheesy name) I was going to read it and it said read this one first that it sets it up other than that I am not sure if I will read anymore.

Great sexy historical mystery-romance.

If you could sum up Wicked Intentions in three words, what would they be?

Mysterious, sexy and delicious!

Have you listened to any of Ashford MacNab’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. She fits this series amazingly. I could not have picked a more perfect narrator for the delivery of such a rich story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I thoroughly enjoyed the whole story from the get go. It draws you in with its hidden mysteries.

Wrong narrator for me

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I thought narrator’s voice was too soft and weak for the character of the hero. The story was solid. I'd recommend this to a friend.

Gothic. Dark. Pretty good.

Overall, this was good but not quite riveting.

The tone of this book is very dark and gothic. It’s set in a poor, densely populated area of London in the 1700s, and the main characters spend a lot of time out on the dangerous streets seeking information about a murder – and the murderer. There’s a lot of poverty, hopelessness and crime in the area, and our heroine is a common widow who runs an orphanage.

The rich and glittery set may as well live in another universe, all of which makes this story quite a bit different than many historical romances. I really liked the change! This won’t be one of those romances that blends into all the others when you try to remember the details!

This had mystery, action, interesting characters, and a great setting, and I’d recommend it to fans of the genre. That said, I never completely connected to any of those characters and I can’t quite figure out why. As silly as this may sound, part of it may have been that the setting was just too dreary to fully enjoy during my short sweet summer. And perhaps the main characters spent a little too much time brooding about being good or evil. That said, I’d like to know what happens next with whatever characters come next in the larger storyline. I can see myself being tempted read the next book around Halloween when gothic feels just right.

The narrator was a little slow but otherwise lovely. If you like historical romance but are feeling a little overwhelmed by hordes of titled, giggling debutantes, maybe something more gothic will fit the bill! The main characters are even (gasp!) grown-ups!

Sweet Story

This was worth the read. It also made me think about doing more with my life. Kind of inspirational even though the characters were fictional I know there are really people out there that give their lives to those less fortunate than themselves. Good read overall.

One of the best this year!

I really enjoyed the story and the characters. Elizabeth Hoyt is becomming one of my favorites. I can not wait for the next in this series. Also narrator was good, I have not listened to anything narrated by her before but I did like her voice:) As far as the book yes it has rather explicit love scenes (not untill 70% of the book though) but I like it, if you do not like that, this book is probably not for you.
