Publisher's summary

A pursuit is underway....

From the hallowed halls of London's Almack's to the unkempt taverns of Drury Lane, from whispered words in glittering theaters to seductive kisses at Vauxhall Gardens - an earl must pursue his lady. Propriety be damned. Anything is allowed. But for success, the Earl of Kelmarsh may have to enact the Rules of the Rogue....

A resolute lady.

Miss Sophie Beckford escaped to Ireland after her almost betrothed broke her heart. Now a year later, she's back in London - stronger, better attired, armed with her cousin, and determined not to fall for the blackguard's wiles again.

A desperate gentleman.

What's an earl to do when his almost betrothed refuses to speak to him, hear him out, or even look at him after a misunderstanding of gargantuan proportions?

With dubious assistance from a roguish marquess, a strait-laced duke, and even the occasional poet and famous actor throwing in their sixpence, the earl will try any ruse, any rule in the book to recapture Sophie's heart. Failure is not an option.

Note: This audiobook includes the bonus novella Merry Christmas, My Viscount.

Both stories

There are two stories presented here. The first is excellently done with wonderful characters and plot. The second starts out much slower and I had to start it three times to keep the characters straight as to who was talking when. The ratings are cumulative for both. The narrator performs both books and she is not one of my favorite performers although she does seem to be getting better.

Perhaps a different narrator

The narrator detracted from the story. I have the book as well. The narration was very nasal and did not fit the male voices very well.

What a drop off!

The first story was so disappointing it was like the author was bored with her own book and just cut it off before finishing with the story. I never bothered wasting my time with the second one.

Good audible book!

Character development was realistic: there was sufficient motivation driving change, timeline supported growth, and individual histories provided evidence of the how and why personalities developed the way they did. The Earl of Kelmarsh and Miss Beckford were nearly married to each other but the Earl was caught in what appeared to be a compromising position with another woman. As a result, Miss Beckford left to stay with family in Ireland without confronting the Earl setting up the conflict that drives the story. She returns to England and is pursued by the Earl who still wants her (physically and emotionally). You know how the story will end but the dialogue is fresh, situations are interesting, and the many ancillary characters create drama and support the storyline so you keep reading anticipating how the happy ending will be set up. I recommend this audible book for the following reasons: accomplished narrator, although long the action moved quickly, and gender roles are atypical and supported in the narrative.

Liked both stories

I liked both stories but I have to say I LOVED the second story the best. They were both romantic but the Christmas love story was swoon worthy. I also enjoyed that it was a mature couple and not the 20 somethings of most Regency-like books.

The narration, as always was with Justine Eyre, was exceptional.

Funny, and a good romance.

Loved all these characters, and the dialogue was fantastic. Justine Eyre is a very good narrator, but I would have liked a male narrator for the hero.

One of my favorite new discoveries.

I adore this author, titillating without the need of repetitive love scenes. Her story carries itself. And the narration is exceptional, I can become immersed in the story without ever giving a thought to the narration, a sign of a true talent.
