Publisher's summary

Humphrey Westcott, Earl of Riverdale, has died, leaving behind a fortune that will forever alter the lives of everyone in his family - including the daughter no one knew he had.

Anna Snow grew up in an orphanage in Bath knowing nothing of the family she came from. Now she discovers that the late Earl of Riverdale was her father and that she has inherited his fortune. She is also overjoyed to learn she has siblings. However, they want nothing to do with her or her attempts to share her new wealth. But the new earl's guardian is interested in Anna.

Avery Archer, Duke of Netherby, keeps others at a distance. Yet something prompts him to aid Anna in her transition from orphan to lady. As London society and her newfound relatives threaten to overwhelm Anna, Avery steps in to rescue her and finds himself vulnerable to feelings and desires he has hidden so well and for so long.

Ms. Austen (Balogh) delivers 5+ again

Rosalyn Landor reads brilliantly Mary Balogh's newest classic story. Ms. Balogh is undeniably modern day Jane Austen and again delights us readers with her latest regency romance.

The love story develops deliciously slow, the hero is mysterious, the heroine "original", and the lovers learn what is lasting love vs. romantic love in the process.

It is interesting that Ms. Balogh chose in this latest novel not to provide much raunchy details during "marital relations", compared to some of her earlier period romances. Is Ms. Balogh maybe tired of the very sex oriented contemporary as well as historical romances available today? This reader did not need any "details" but enjoyed the story of Anastasia and Avery just as is.

Other side of the blanket

This was a well writhen rags to riches story about a orphan becoming the true heir. The narrator was perfect for the story. This was well worth the credit. I would read the next story in the series.

Good to goofy

Started promising and towards the end I could not believe i was still reading the same story. Lots of page fillers and repetitive information through letters or retelling of the story. Overall a disappointing experience

Way tooo long

I enjoyed this story and am not a professional writer, but, this needed a good editor. As noted in prior reviews, the repartition was really annoying . The reader had already been informed, why repeat it in another long draw out exchange. Loved the concept, liked the leads, loathed this issue. It made me think of the old installment novels ,where they were paid by the word.
Stopped at chapter 10 skipped to 22 wrote this review after last chapter .... same problem. I will go through the whole tape since story is interesting.

Loved it

What a clever reversal of the illegitimate concept among the aristocracy. When I started listening to this one, I assumed that it was the same old story about a child born on the "wrong side of the blanket" that was not entitled to inherit from its parents. I absolutely loved the reversal and thoroughly enjoyed the story.

Mary Balogh at her best

This is a great new series that I know I will thoroughly enjoy. Great first book in the tale of the Westcotts.

Just OK, not like her earlier books

This book showed the authors exemplary ability to write an engaging story, but lacked the level of steam and character development seen in her earlier work.
Narrator EXCELLENT. I forgot I was listening to a female narrator when she did male voices!

Another Wonderful Story by Ms. Balogh

I love Mary Balogh's novels. And they are better yet when narrated by Rosalyn Landor. I was a little confused in the beginning of the story with all the people involved and titles but finally got it. I loved how strong Anna, the heroine, was. How she refused to back down. Unlike other books I have read from other authors, she is not arrogant or acts silly or is stupid and does things one shouldn't and gets in trouble. There are reasons for her actions. She doesn't like frilly things as she is not accustom to them. There are a few surprises during the story, which are delightful. Definitely worth the credit.

A bit over the top with childish side characters

Not my favorite Balogh. Minor characters were very childish. Heroine was unrealistic and hero absurd.

great love story, but...

I would have liked a little more substance & better closure for all the characters. Overall still a wonderful story and when I will enjoy listening to again.

Easy listening.

The hero is well described, boarding school is not an environment for the weak. So being forced to find a way to survive, he comes out better than most.
The heroine though put in an orphanage, escaped her father and was brought up knowing herself.
The rest is a good description of societies dictates and how easy it is to fall from grace. You either fit the criteria or you don't belong, no different than "Cliques today".
The narrator does a great job.

Wonderful book (easy listen)

Where does Someone to Love rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It is an easy listen, but a very enjoyable one. It is a Cinderella story but one well done.

What did you like best about this story?

The scene in the attic, the new twist to the old Cinderella theme.

Which character – as performed by Rosalyn Landor – was your favourite?

The main character.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Took me two days.

Any additional comments?

Rosalyn Landor makes even average books worth a listen, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one and not just because of the expert narration.
