Publisher's Summary

She takes my breath away; she is so beautifully damaged. Yes, I had broken her, ravished her life, and destroyed her happiness. I brought her to the ultimate despair. I was responsible for all the pain and suffering that now brought her to her knees in front of me. Broken. Hopeless. Reckless in her agony.

She is a mirror of my own tortured soul. But what I took away I can give back, in ways she cannot even begin to imagine. She is everything right in all my wrongs. She loves me. She needs me. She has no idea I'm the one who wrecked her life.

Contains mature themes.

Loved it!!

The reviews on this book had me torn on whether to make this purchase or not.
I originally skipped it and went on to Lukas.
That actually worked to my benefit because like another reviewer said, the books are out of order ( book 2 is really book 3).
It just doesn't make sense to have Vandal's daughter die in this book only to have her alive and well in Lukas.
I also agree with others that this is not a happy feel good listen but for those of us that don't mind going to the dark side in a book it's definitely a must listen.
Carian Cole has a way of writing that is so
believably close to real life that it pulls you right in.
And like in real life when tragedy strikes there is only one way to find your way back... through finding the beauty in what you have left.
This story does that perfectly.
Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell gave a great performance with all the emotional layers these characters had.
For me this book was well worth the credit.

Dark Emotional Ride!

Cole delivered another emotionally charged story about two characters coming together after a horrible tragedy. It was dark, raw, full of so many emotions and had light BDSM. The emotions the characters experienced felt genuine and it broke my heart listening to the characters dealing and coping with the aftermath of the tragedy that left both the H/h broken, and emotionally distraught. I'm not a fan of BDSM stories, but Cole did a great job writing this plot. Vandal's insecurities about his childhood, and parents not wanting him is reflected by his need to control and dominate through a D/s lifestyle. While some of the sex scenes were hot, I felt the chemistry between them was lacking. Of course, they needed and wanted each other but this was driven by their need to fix and control. Regardless, it's a great story full of emotions and an awesome addition to the series!

Loved the narration! Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell always deliver an amazing performance.

Dark and twisty

This one had lots of ups and downs in the emotions department. A good book can bring out emotions and this one did. I do like the light BDSM that's in here too. Although this one was on the light side of spicy it was nicely done about a 4 or 5/10 on the hot meter!

Narration was well done on both narrators and don't have any complaints. They voiced the characters great and did not distract me from the book. If you like dark and twisty than mayhap this one will be worth the credit to you.... however this is NOT a bodice ripper!!!

ashes to ashes, dust to dust!

I read Storm and Lukas and was very reluctant to listen to Vandal because of all the dark reviews. I'm glad I finally listened to Vandal, however I'm not a fan of BDSM so I won't read it again. Many heartfelt moments. Worth the credit? yes master. lol

Get Vandalized!!!

I absolutely love Vandal, a story so beautiful and harsh, a contradiction just as its hero is. Vandal is a damaged, tortured man who believes that he unworthy and not redeemable. The beginning of the story is so heartbreaking and emotional.

“The mix of her presence and her void is completely overwhelming, and I fall to my knees in the middle of the room. The pain in my chest is like nothing I’ve ever felt before, as if my heart is being ripped from my body and sliced into tiny pieces. I want her back so bad. I want to just feel her tiny hand in mine and tuck her into bed”

When Vandal sees the young widow grieving at the cemetery, he is so drawn to her. He knows he should stay away from Tabitha, but the attraction is so strong and he wants to somehow find a way to help her heal.

“I can’t take my eyes off of her. She absolutely takes my breath away. She’s so beautifully damaged. She’s wrecked. I can see it in her lifeless eyes. And now I want to fix her in the only way I know how”

This book deals with the death of a child, BDSM, fetishes, cutting, addictions and many harsh realities of the human condition, but underlining it all is the feeling that hope can survive and grow in even the darkest corner (and I believe that Sterling is the perfect example of that.)

“you became the moon and stars in my dark nights. Your love is like a fire that burns into my soul. I can't lose you, too.”

For a re-read I listened to the audiobook of Vandal. The narrators, Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell do an amazing job bringing to life this beautiful story and these amazing characters. Joe let us hear the tenderness that Vandal tries to keep hidden under his rough, alpha side. Maxine's perfect performance as Tabitha cemented her place in my heart.

YES! Surprisingly good series so far

Definitely recommending this series, based on books 1&2. Not much rock/music emphasis, but well written characterizations. Narration decent. I purchased kindle ebook with audio- well worth the price!

Love it!

Fantastic book and fantastic narrators.

I will say however that the kindle book has a very different ending! It was updated by the author this year. Tabitha comes over in a very different light because of that. I don't want to add any spoilers however.

Heartbreaking!

Any additional comments?

The opening scene of this book tore my heart up into little pieces! VANDAL is more angsty and heartbreaking than the first book in the Embers and Ashes series, STORM.

Vandal is a very broken hero with a very sad childhood and an even sadder present. When he meets Tabatha, who is also going through her own loss and heartache, he sees it as an opportunity to perhaps make amends for his mistakes. I loved the BDSM exploration in this story. I liked that it doesn't fully dominate the entire plot and there were more layers to this story than just the DS relationship.

Carian Cole's narrative is addictive and entertaining. I loved the interaction with the other band members and their own parallel stories. I listened to the audiobook and Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell are one of my favourite narrating duo. They delivered an amazing job as always.

Dark and twisted

This is the 3rd Carian Cole book I've read and so far, I've enjoyed them all. The story lines and well constructed and the characters are just right. This book in particular is very dark and a bit depressing but it just adds to the story. There is a lot more sex scenes in this compared to the other books. The voice actors suit the characters, especially Vandal. The BDSM is not OTT. I would reread.
