Very well-written!!!

I recently discovered Carian Cole. Out of the 300+ books in my audible library, this is the very first review I’ve written, I love a good love story, but I was on the fence because of the mixed reviews. I saw that people either loved or hated it. I can easily decipher those two categories to be those who understand mental illness and addiction, and those who do not. If you believe that addiction is a choice and mental illness is an excuse for people to behave poorly, then you’re not educated on the topic and thus, you won’t root for Evan and you’ll think Piper is a doormat. However, if you know that addiction is a disease recognized by the medical community, and that mental illness is a brain disease that effects behavior because of the chemical imbalance in part of the brain the controls habit, impulse control, judgement and decision making, then you will absolutely love this story!! This is the 5th Carian Cole book and she is quickly becoming a favorite author of mine.

The reason I’m choosing to write a review for this book is because I could 100% relate with the male mc. I have struggled with mental illness and substance abuse my entire adult life. I have 4 diagnosed mental illnesses and am on 8 medications so that I can do my best to live a normal life. However, the road to get to the healthy place I am in now was long, heartbreaking and I caused a lot of damage in my wake. Always regretting and always unintentionally caused pain. But those that love me, they know my heart, they know I’m a very kind and loving person and always have good intentions… my loved ones know I don’t understand why I did the things I did. I’ll be on medication the rest of my life. And so will Evan. Everything written about him and this story is an accurate portrayal of what it is like to live with mental illness in a world where the majority thinks we’re just bad people. Piper was an amazing example of what it takes to love a mentally ill addict. I didn’t see her as a doormat at all. I saw someone who looked past the surface level of Evans behavior. Yes, she was very naive at times, almost to a fault, but it was clear it was because she never wanted to give up on him.

The book is long, but I never felt that it lagged or anything. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that understands the mentioned subjects or that wants to understand them.

The love story in itself is a roller coaster! But I absolutely loved every minute of it.

Best book ever!

This book kept me interested, and I could not put it down. Awesome!

She killed my heart

I have read author Carian Cole in the past, I have favorite characters and I know she has this special way of bringing a story to life and you become lost and feel the emotions expressed in you heart.

With this story I took time before I picked it up because I knew the emotional roller coaster I would be stepping into, yet it was so much more this couples journey was such an intense situation where love, the non fairytale kind but the raw I will rip your heart out and keep it forever, with all books the twists come in different forms for this was the battle our Hero will fight for a lifetime and a heroine who will never give up because when love is as strong as theirs a choice will never exist.

Unusually great

This is was very different from my usual reads but it was a good story.

if I could give it more than five stars I would! this book really spoke to me having had a lot of these same issues come up in my life the book was raw and gritty with a touch of love and humor. I love that the author spoke of mental illness and heartbreak so vividly. thank you for gifting me with these words, this book.

Wow just wow

I fell in love with these characters and almost could believe they were real. I wanted them to have a happy ending. I cried and held my breath in some places in the story. It ended as I hoped it would.

Sad but Beautiful

This audio book is one that I will never forget, Carian Cole has written a beautiful story .
The narrators were great ,the main characters of course brought tears to my eyes so be sure you have a box of tissues. The things one puts up with for the sake of love is unbelievable. I guess we're all a little crazy sometimes while others really are. This story will open your eyes to a lot.

It was bit drawn out but it helped me to understand mental health and the demons we fight daily,

Very dark and disturbing scenes, but after learning more of Evans story, it makes sense.

I love that Evan and Piper, as well as Lucky show up in another of Carian’s books. Kinda cool!
