Publisher's summary

Sexy, tattooed, and inevitably dangerous. Memphis is all that and more....

I live for the pain; it's what drives me to keep moving. But there comes a time when one has to push the demons aside in order to survive.

I thought I buried them deep. I thought I was ready to finally live. Until...my brother, Alex; he throws me into the fire - right into the place I could never control myself, the one place I never want to be again.

When I put my hands on people, they get hurt. Things happen that bring me back to that night. The one that will forever torment me.

I'm doing fine, keeping to myself in order to ensure no one gets hurt by me. Then along comes Lyric, and all I want to do is touch her, to put my hands in places that I know will only lead to her being crushed by me.

She's the rush that I crave. The darkest of poison running through my veins, killing me bit by bit; like a drug I can't get enough of even though I'm almost down to my last breath.

And being around her only hurts more, but what she doesn't understand is that I welcome the pain; I get off on it, which in the end leaves me with the hardest decision of my life - one that might get us all killed....

Author's note: Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for listeners under the age of 18. This is a stand-alone novel; more books with side characters can all be heard alone.

I hate to but I have to agree about the male narrator

The story itself was ok. It was hard to get past male narrator. I listen to audiobooks frequently and love this author but he made the book hard to believe. The strong male that he was reading for didn’t fit and his version of female was rough. I’m going to move on to the second book because its narrators are different.

Male narrator’s female voices are just that bad

I rarely write reviews. Unfortunately I have to agree with so many. The male voice is nice for the main male voices. His voice for female characters is horrific! There is no way to take it seriously. I powered through to see what happens but I won’t listen to anymore that he narrates if he’s doing female voices.

I never cried so much from a book 📙 before in my life! It was perfect! Might be be to vuger in the S*X department for some people but I think it fit perfectly in the story

Not for me

This story is very sex oriented. Main characters are portrayed as tortured bad guy/girl. It just not my stile of book because of story line and type of characters.

Memphis & Lyric

This is the story of Memphis and Lyric. Memphis is returning home from spending 6 years in prison and just wants to find is younger brother and get out of town and start a new life for them. Unfortunately, his brother is in trouble and it forces Memphis to get wrapped up in things from his past that he tries to avoid. It also leaves the door open for him to fall for his next door neighbor no matter how hard he tries to fight it. Lyric has her own issues that come to light toward the end of the book.

This was a nice, quick listen with little drama although I didn't feel as much passion and chemistry between the 2 main characters as I would have liked to or have felt in Victoria Ashley's other books.

As far as narration; I don't mind Alexander Candese. His female voice needs work as it is almost comical how high pitched he does it, but I like his male voice. I could do without Abby Craden. I do not like her narration at all so she ruined it for me and maybe that is why I didn't feel the heat and chemistry between the characters. If you don't have a good narrator delivering the story and people then it takes away from the characters and your overall perception. I would have preferred Alexander doing the entire book, high pitch female voice an all.

Short Story

This was a fast paced love story with plenty of drama, emotion, push and pull.
Not one of the best stories but was okay.

Memphis is ready to open his heart & capture yours

What did you love best about Get Off on the Pain?

I loved how vulnerable Memphis became when he met his match with Lyric.

What other book might you compare Get Off on the Pain to and why?

Book 2 in the series Something For The Pain. I loved getting to know both brothers and seeing how they dealt with their troubles. They are very different yet a lot alike.

What does Alexander Cendese and Abby Craden bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

They bring you right into the book and made you feel part of the story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely! I couldn't get enough!

Any additional comments?

I absolutely love this story and was beyond ecstatic to experience the book through audio.

Great story, poor narration

loved the story. Only thing I didn't like was the Male narrator's female voices. They were awful. Overall good book thought.
