Publisher's Summary

Kelsey Byden grew up believing her mother had died when she was three. Now, at 26 and freshly divorced, she receives a letter from her mother explaining that she is alive and living on a Virginia horse farm. Deeply strung by lies told to protect her, Kelsey takes her anger out at her college professor father by going to visit her mother, who Kelsey learns spent over 10 years in prison for murder.

But there are more secrets to be found out, and Kelsey decides to stay at her mother's splendid horse farm where she falls in love with horses and the man next door - handsome gambler Gabe Slater. When murdered men and injured horses turn up, Kelsey finds evil lurking where she least expects it, and risks all to restore her mother's honor.

What the Critics Say

"Roberts paints her story with a broad brush, but its colorful canvas, easily identifiable heroes and villains and swirling action add up to another winner for this popular author." (Publishers Weekly)

    "Wonderful Story!"

Storyline wonderful, author showed much knowledge about horse racing industry--I learned a lot. I REALLY didn't like Kelsey's voice--she sounded like a much more mature woman. Had the story not been so riveting to me I would NOT have finished the book-in that respect is was a struggle.

"True Betrayals - Pace is Sloooow"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I would have preferred another book. This is an ok Nora Roberts book, but is seems dated. I believe it's mostly due to the narration.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

If you have read a Nora Roberts book, you know how it's going to go.

What didn’t you like about Rose Anne Shansky’s performance?

The narrator's voice is slow. The timing in the dialogue could be better. The most evident problem with the voice for me is that she sounds old. She plays the mom just fine, but as for the heroine and the hero, the voice didn't really work. Often, I couldn't tell the difference between when the mom was talking or when the daughter was talking. And I had to fast forward the intimate scenes. They just weren't coming across as sexy because the voice wasn't sexy. It was frumpy.

Was True Betrayals worth the listening time?

Casual listening only. I've missed a lot because the voice was not compelling.

I'm a Nora Roberts fan but this definitely wasn't one her her best works but the narrator ruined any chance it had.

    "The WORST NARRATOR ever!!!"

I couldn't make it beyond the 2nd chapter. The narration has to be the WORST I have ever heard. None of the character voices sounded younger than an 85 year old grandmother.
