Publisher's Summary

Chase Benteen Calder was bound to wrest a fortune from Montana land, where the whisper of riches swept across a sea of buffalo grass. With Lorna at his side, a woman who took the tough ways of the land as her destiny, he would breathe life into his dream. Through the treacherous Texas prairie, the perils of Indian country, and a bustling Dodge City, they forged their way to Montana. With Calder strength, they would harvest their fortune from the rich earth, on the sprawling plains of This Calder Range.

Excellent story. Narration was a bit off putting.

Ms. Dailey knows her ranching. The narrator doesn't and I'm quite sure she isn't from anywhere close to Texas. She sounds like maybe Ireland or Scotland(?). Having previously read much of the Calder series I knew the story was worth hanging in there. Having not known that I'm not sure I could have.

Calder Ranch is awesome.

Read in the order in which they were written of this awesome series. Really love Janet Daly's way of presenting this family as it grows along with the ranch.

Okay story

Mostly enjoyable ..the narrator was very good. Moved a bit too slow for me but, worth the credit used.

Wish I could give more than 5*******

Best book I've ever read/ and or listened too.

I loved the way it showed that absolute bad and then turned it 180 and showed the good. I've been looking for another series that I could absolutely get into for over a year now. Excited I found this one.

Great read!!!

horrible narrator

I loved this book when I read it 35 years ago, decided to listen to it because my eyes are so bad I can't read. #1 I did not like the narrator AT ALL. accent really does not go with these books horrible. I am about 1/2 through and the only reason I'm finishing it is because I want to reread the series. if same narrator is reading the next one, I won't listen to them.

Narrator not appropriate

While this narrator is obviously talented, her style, accent & tone completely detracted from the story. She is not suited for books set in the Western states. The pronunciation was incorrect on many words, not to mention that this book was written from a mans point of view. So, the female voice was disconcerting & distracting. Surely, there are male narrators available with a grasp of western dialects & lingo.

Odd narrative reading for a western book

An English narrator for a Texas novel? Goofy accents had me wincing. It ruined a good book.
