Publisher's Summary

Passion, wealth, and murder come together in this unpauseable thriller from the New York Times best-selling “queen of romantic suspense” (Booklist) Linda Howard.

Roanna Davenport grew up a wealthy orphan on her grandmother’s magnificent estate, Davencourt. There, she wanted for nothing - except to be loved by her cousin Webb. When he marries another, Roanna is devastated, but life at Davencourt takes an even darker turn when Webb’s new wife is found bludgeoned to death.

After the shocking murder, Webb leaves for Arizona, abandoning the privileged life that he had once believed was all he wanted. Years later, a grown-up Roanna walks back into his life to bring him home. He’s shocked that the mischievous sprite he had known in childhood has disappeared. Gone, too, is her passionate fire; in its place is ice that melted at his touch, but Webb can’t help but be drawn back to Davencourt, to Roanna, and to the killer who once destroyed his life and waits only for the chance to finish the job.

With Linda Howard’s signature “fast-paced, intricately detailed romantic suspense” (Fresh Fiction), Shades of Twilight will keep you riveted until the last minute.

Love Linda Howard

The story was good. The twist at the end took me by surprise. I couldn't really get over the fact that Webb & Jessie were cousins, and Webb & Roanna too, that was a little strange but overall a good read/listen. Natalie Ross always delivers!

No Warning of Incest

Shame on Audible!! There was no warning of father-daughter incest! Never would have considered this book had I known. Stopped the story immediately. Do not care how it ends.

Sex scene and repeated iterations

The story was good. Unfortunately I almost couldn't get through it due to sooooo much rehashing of sex scene. Just not for me so tried to skip over them. A lot!

A Soft Porn Soap Opera

I'm so frustrated with this book! I have four hours left to listen. I hate to abandon a book but I may have to abandon this one. I've stuck with it for about 9 hours and NOTHING is happening except for sex; thoughts of having sex; and descriptions of sexual interludes... I'm no prude but geez...The author must either be bored with her own sex life or she has none at all so she has to live vicariously through her characters, who, by the way, are so two-dimensional that looking at lines on a piece of paper would be more interesting!. What a complete waste of time. It's not losing the credit that irks me, it's wasting time I could have spent reading something of substance. Don't waste the credit. Don't waste your time!!!

Love this story

I don’t write many reviews. And I haven’t written one on this before now though I should have. See I’ve read/heard this book many times. I love this book.

Linda Howard is one of my favorites. She knows how to craft an amazing story. True every once in a while when I hear this story I do skip a few chapters in the beginning until the main characters are now older. But the beginning story is necessary and is still good.

I don’t love all Linda Howard books, but I do love many of them. Like Drop Dead Gorgeous (cleaver and funny), Heart of Fire (cleaver and adventurous), Now You See Her (solving the crime and cute), Open Season (so cute and solving the crime), Mr Perfect (funny and solving the crime) and many more. And by the way I have all of these and have read them all many times. This is why I want to always check out the Linda Howard books. And they are not always the same. Like some is more funny than others (love those) and one has the heroine seeing ghosts and painting murders, another has the heroine going husband hunting, and another has the hero and heroine trying to fight for supremacy in their relationship even if the girl tries to manipulate the hero, another in the jungle trying to find treasure. I love how all her books aren’t cookie cutter versions of themselves.

This one is about having a crush on a boy and him being suspected of killing his wife. Then some years later trying to bring him back to his home so he can take over. But his wife’s murder still hangs over him but he is older and a bit harder than he was. And he likes girl that had a crush on him. She stood by him when others didn’t and they have chemistry. I won’t give any more away.

But this is a great book. Keep it up Linda Howard.
