Publisher's summary

It was immediate for Roman. In 3,000 years, he'd never lost control of his emotions, or his heart. But the moment he laid eyes on Evelynne Farrow, he knew she was the woman who haunted his dreams. And everything changed. Everything. Evie Farrow has always loved a good vampire romance. In fact, she makes a living writing them. While sitting in a coffee shop and working on her next mega-hot book, Evie is approached by a tall, dark, and handsome man who could have been pulled directly from one of her novels.

Unbeknownst to her, Roman D'Angelo is exactly what he appears to be - a vampire, and not just any vampire, but the king of vampires. Unfortunately, while Roman is both ancient and invulnerable, Evie is flesh and blood. Just as Roman decides that he and Evie have a date with destiny, for reasons of their own, an ancient god and a homicidal vampire take an equally strong interest in her. Can Roman fight off the incredible forces that would have Evie as their own long enough to win her heart? Or will destiny betray him and destroy everything he has ever dreamed of?

Could be better, but series holds promise

Like many of the other reviewers the first 5 hours of this nearly killed me to listen too. It was fully of introductions, and not a lot of substance, and I saw little point most of it. The two main characters were rarely present and the points they were present for held little to the story.

Fast forward to last couple hours and it picked up and the story became decent and intriguing enough to make me think about trying the second novel. If it continues with actual story and less world history / explanation it should be good.

I disagree with the reviews on the narrator as I have adored everything Antony Ferguson and this one is no exception, the drag of the story was not due to his narration at all, and due to the story itself.

Plot detailed, yet hard to follow.

Lots of minor characters difficult to keep track of. I felt this wasn’t the first book of a series, but initially I thought it was. Some plot intricacies required deeper explanation, unless these things have been explained in earlier volumes. I felt I was coming into the story somewhere in the middle, and the ending also felt like it was leading into the next book. Where is Book I of this series? Where does it begin?

Interesting

The main story is quite interesting. However, this audiobook truly needs a better editor. There was at least three times that it repeated itself. It start of the chapter again so that’s editing so the storyline kept you engaged. I like the characters, but it was very distracting to constantly be here what was already had been said.

Shotgun of ideas rolled in a ball

Humm, well, this wasn’t a bad book per se, but it did have its issues. First, I found it a bit confusing and didn’t have a good grasp on the storyline or where it was heading. If it wasn’t for the very beginning, I would’ve been completely lost. They were also the beginning of many other storylines that didn’t go anywhere. I think the biggest problem was they were lots of concepts in this book but none of them were fully explained or explored. It was just a shotgun of ideas rolled into a ball. Does that make any sense? Probably not. I haven’t read the other reviews, but I’m sure somebody else has more eloquently put into words what I’m trying to say.

Good start of a series

I enjoyed this book. However, I would have preferred more interaction between the vampire King and the heroine. I look forward to see more development of the world and the other kings

Good story

What didn’t you like about Antony Ferguson’s performance?

The narrator was terribly monotone.

Any additional comments?

I will likely end up listening to the next book in the series because the first left me hanging, but I sure wish someone else was narrating it.

Love the vampire king

I loved the story but it did jump around from present to past without notice. It was also very short. Though I love HKW!! Narrator was excellent!
