Publisher's Summary

They tell you there are plenty of fish in the sea, but nobody mentions the sharks. Plunge into this hot, hilarious audio-first romance by USA Today best-selling author Cara Lockwood!

Getting back into the dating scene is never easy, but imagine my surprise when I sign up for a dating app and get matched with my new business rival.

Rich, mysterious, and gorgeous, Peter is controlling my company's high-stakes merger. Everyone says he's a cutthroat corporate shark who takes no prisoners and guts companies with ruthless precision. But the more I get to know that man behind the expensive suit, the more I see hidden depths that no one else knows about.

Peter and I can't deny our attraction. But are his feelings real, or does he just want inside information about the merger? And when another boardroom power player makes his interest known, I start to wonder...am I falling for the wrong shark?

One thing is clear: In the world of dating, nothing is simple...but risking it all just might lead to the life of your dreams.

Mantuition. noun. It's raining men, Hallelujah!

This book is LOL funny and witty and relate-able. The plot reminded me of the movie “Bad Moms” wherein the heroine tries to make the best of life after divorce - ex stuff, teenage kids, sarcastic mom, and dating. It makes light of serious topics via witty dialogue and banter. Lori (h) is such a strong character in spite of her insecurities that i wished the book had been longer. One thing that I thought was unbelievable though was the “insta love” from Peter(H). But, I’m not complaining. I believe that the h totally deserved her H and HEA.

Amanda Ranconi’s delivery was spot on, enhancing my experience making my commute through bad traffic (due to accident) bearable. Really, I didn’t mind my almost 2 hour commute home on a Firday.

I’m raving about this book as a must read especially if you can listen to it for free through the Audible Romance package. Definitely, worth your time. If you are a reader who think mid-30 to 40 is too old, you may want to stay away. Otherwise, worth the credit. Happy listening!

Too short, but I loved it

It was a short listen, but I loved it. Amanda Ronconi as usual did a great job on narration. This is my first book by Cara Lockwood, and I’m interested in reading/listening to another one. The main character for me was a little indecisive at times. Which is a bit annoying, but as you listen and get to the end you can see why. It is a true romance audible listen, with all the good parts.

Poor Presentation of Story

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

This was an 'adult' story, but the presntation sounded as if a 15 year old high school student was telling the story. The narration did not match the story line. I found the narration so distracting, that I could not get past the first hour.

Cute

Cute, sweet and funny. I couldn’t quite figure out where this book was going as I listened. Is Peter the real deal or is he just playing her? What are Tate’s motivations? A faced paced, happy read that will keep you on your toes.

Family melodrama

Focus on trials and tribulations of a middle-aged, divorced mother of 2 teenagers as she juggles multiple suitors and troubles at work.

Standalone. No cliffhanger.

Lots of romance. Some passion. No erotica.

Narration is good.

Cute and Funny

A mature woman with teenage children is now in a downpour of men after the draught after her divorce two years ago, from her man-child ex-husband.

When her 16 year old daughter talks her into going on the dating app, Spark, all of a sudden her sexy boss, the guy who is in charge of the merger between her company and his, and her ex-husband all seem to want her at the same time. If she can just get a handle on swiping left instead of right.

Then everything good to be true and things in her life start falling apart. Her ex won't return calls about their daughter, people at the company are loosing their jobs and she doesn't know if she can trust the man she's falling for.

I really enjoyed this. I was laughing within the first few minutes of the story and it almost never stopped. I am now looking to read/listen to more from this author.

sweet and light

The romance in this book was sweet. I adored how funny and loving the main character was. She made me laugh at ever corner. Her perspective on her life as a divorced woman was enlightening and there were many lessons to be learnt. the sexual tension was high but the sex scenes itself were short and a bit boring...if you want a romance that's light then this is good for you.

A Great Humorous Read/Listen

If you're looking for a light funny humorous read this is the one for you. A great quick listen and wonderful love story especially if you are 40+, divorced with 2 children (girl and boy), this is a must read/listen.

The narrator's performance was wonderfully done. I really enjoyed her performance, she made me feel as if each caricature was actually live reading their parts.

For a fun, light read.

Would you recommend The Shark and I to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes, for a fun, light read.

Did Amanda Ronconi do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Great with the main character. Funny and nuanced.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

Wanted more details and development of romance and office merger troubles. Wanted more of Peter's point of view and character development.

Any additional comments?

Loved the quirky, funny voice of the main character. Enjoyed the daily adventures of parenting, living with a hippy mother, issues with exes, and the endless drama of online dating.
