Publisher's Summary

Hotshot sports editor Cole Sharpe has been freelancing for Oxford magazine for years, so when he hears about a staff position opening up, he figures that he's got the inside track. Then his boss drops a bombshell: Cole has competition. Female competition, in the form of a fresh-faced tomboy who can hang with the dudes and write circles around them, too.

Penelope Pope knows all too well that she comes off as just one of the guys. Since she's learned that wanting more usually leads to disappointment, Penelope is resigned to sitting on the sidelines when it comes to love. So why does Cole make her want to get back in the game? The man is as arrogant as he is handsome. He probably sees her as nothing more than a barrier to his dream job. But when an unexpected kiss turns into a night of irresistible passion, Penelope has to figure out whether they're just fooling around or starting something real.

Contains mature themes.

An unexpected Gem

This book took me by surprise. I like a good romance here or there but this one took me by surprise how much I like it. It was funny, light and just all mushy in all the right places! It was definitely a fun read!

Just ok

I've never left a review before but this book wasn't that good to me. I am a traditional romance lover so I love all the sappy and cheesy moment but the story wasn't written well. It didn't really flow and I couldn't get into it. There was so much focus on other things outside of the actual relationship. It really didn't do it for me. The narration really didn't help the story. I liked that their was duel POV but it was read by one person. I hate when a female voice tries to play both a man and female. It sounds so weird and I think that's partly why I couldn't get into it. Not worth the credit for me.

Slow moving

Story is okay, but I have very much liked other stories by Lauren Layne, so I wonder if the problem here was the narrator. Her rendering of Cole’s voice—as well as the back and forth of the characters not opening their mouths and saying what was on their minds—made the male come off as very weak.
I was ready for this one to end.

Great writing, but did nothing for me.

Would you consider the audio edition of Irresistibly Yours to be better than the print version?

I thought that I'd love this story, but unfortunately, it fell a little flat for me. I didn't really connect to any of the characters as much as I would have liked and while Penelope was charming, she was way too insecure for me to truly connect with her as a woman. She was always putting herself down and it just made her seem whiny. Cole was just okay as a hero. He was a bit of a jerk towards the end but they still had their HEA. My biggest complaints are it took so long to get to the sexy times and there wasn't the usual banter that typically draws me into romance like my usual reads.

Would you be willing to try another book from Lauren Layne? Why or why not?

Sure, she's a good writer.

Book is great, audio not so much

I love Lauren Layne books but this one does not have the best narration unfortunately.

Decent Listen

Like it. Nice simple listen. I wish we had a chance to go more into their heads but otherwise it was a good listen.

Enjoyed the book. A few suggestions some below

I wish they had gone a little more of their relationship at work. It would have been more interesting

Guy is amazed that women eat?

So I tried. But every time the main character eats, the guy fixates on the fact that 'omg this woman - she likes food - how unheard of!' ....and I simply cannot get over it.
It is the catalys for every kiss/sexual encounter they have for the first half of the book.
Unrealistic and disappointing

It was mediocre

It was a filler type of read. You could tell what was coming. Overall, so-so audible read.
