Publisher's summary

You know, being friends with two cute boys does have its benefits.

There's Danny. Danny is a golden boy in every way. He has dreamy blue eyes and blonde hair that always looks perfect, even when it's windblown or been stuck under a football helmet. He's the boy every girl crushes on. The boy I get into trouble with, the boy I fight with, the hot quarterback no girl can resist, not even me. Being with Danny is like being on an adventure. He has a bright, contagious smile and abs to die for. He's pretty much irresistible.

Equally crush worthy is Phillip. Adorable, sweet Phillip, who I have known since birth. Phillip has dark hair, a perfect smile, brown eyes, and the sexiest voice I have ever heard. He's the boy I talk to every night before I go to sleep. The boy who rescues me, the boy who can read my mind, the boy who is always there for me, the boy who tries to keep me out of trouble, the boy who irritatingly keeps getting hotter, and whose strong arms always seem to find their way around me. And when he gives me that grin, I can never say no.

One boy will give me my very first kiss.

One boy will teach me to make out.

One boy will take me to prom.

And finally, one boy will ask me to marry him.

They will both be my best friends.

But only one of them will be the boy I fall in love with.

Only one of them is That Boy.

Different classification

Decent enough book, but disappointed in how it was described before purchase. I feel like this should have been labeled as a young adult book.

Captivating....

JJ, Phillips, and Danny's story is very captivating. It is not a new theme, but at the same time, very startling. The author keep us guessing about the love interest between the two boys/men, but I sort of knew which one from the beginning. They were both good catches, but one has an edge. This is not a love triangle per se, but it kind of is. It is not off putting though. There is just something about this story that makes it a magnificent romance.

Even though it was Danny who was constantly making out with JJ, she would always talk to Phyllips every night before going to bed. Their relationship was deep. The author also did a good job in not making this story boring. The pace was brisk but steady and I love that. It is also very helpful to take note of the date and timing. Like my title suggests, stories of friends to lovers abound, and in the hands of a good author, always a good read. It was more enjoyable for me because I listened to the audio version. The actor was awesome, did justice to the character of JJ. That's about all I would say. Read it and see.

Love it!

Love the story and the characters. The buddying romance and wondering who it will be. I can’t wait to hear the rest.

That boy

Would you consider the audio edition of That Boy to be better than the print version?

I think that the audio was great. It did take me awhile since she spoke so fast to catch up with the time line in this book. I think the print version would of been better for that fact alone. Other then that I enjoyed the audio version.

Who was your favorite character and why?

JJ of course! She reminds me so much of me when I was younger. Her thoughts and feelings.

Any additional comments?

I still have the unanswered question of who got to be her first time. They made such a big deal out of it in the book I kept waiting to hear about it. I felt a little ripped off that this did not play out. That's why I can't give it 5 stars. It was a fun, laugh out loud, eye rolling good read.

That Boy is perfect

If you could sum up That Boy in three words, what would they be?

Youthful, thoughtful, a book with substance

What other book might you compare That Boy to and why?

Jenny Han's books: The Summer I Turned Pretty (series of 3 books), because both books sound as if the narrator is having a private conversation with you. Simone Elkeles' Ruined (Series of 3 books). Another strong female character who brings a conversational tone to the book. The books are laugh out loud funny. If I Stay by Gayle Forman, because of the interesting view point and dealing with the death of a family member. All of the books I've compared deal with books that have strong female leads. There's romance in all three recommendations. All the main characters are likable, complicated, and human.

Which scene was your favorite?

I liked the scene with Danny teaching JJ how to kiss, because it made me laugh.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yep. I loved the narrator and the book equally.

Any additional comments?

The narrator actually sounded like a teenager. I hate listening to a woman or man who sounds like they're 55 read the part of a teenager. I don't want to hear a raspy smokers / sexy voice when listening to YA. I want to hear a YA read a YA book. This narrator did just that. She is awesome.

A Fun Book

I enjoyed this book. It wasn't a page turner but it kept my attention especially because I was unsure of which boy she would choose. There are some twists and turns to keep it exciting. My only problem was that I didn't feel the electricity between her and one boy. Sort of wish she had chose the other one. Looking forward to reading That Wedding.
