An Irish mobster. A missing friend. Two loyalties, ripping me apart. I had a plan. Get in, get my information, and get out. Easy, right? Turns out, infiltrating the Irish mafia isn't exactly what I thought it would be. I just wanted a soldier. Someone I could flirt with to get me in the door. That's when Lachlan Crow noticed me. Problem was, he wasn't a soldier. No, he was next in line for the throne of the Irish underworld. And he was determined to hate me from the outset.
Once upon a time, I believed in fairytales. But then he took me. And he taught me that life isn't a fairytale. He is scarred. Broken. A dark and wild thing. His beauty is violent and his words are cruel. His heart is a shadowed landscape where nothing can grow. He tells me he could never care for me, and he proves it every day.
He says he owns me. And it's true. I've signed over complete control of my body and life for six months to a man I don't know. Five years he's been planning this. They say revenge is a dish best served cold. But my blackmailer serves it up white hot. He's addicted to my innocence, and I'm addicted to him. He likes to hurt me. I love to let him. He brings me to life. He sets me free. He makes my heart feel things it shouldn't. But he also scares me.
I named myself. I took the word animal out of their mouths, wore it like a badge of honor, then shoved it down their throats. I've fought for what I have. I see you coming before you even know you want a piece of me. In a city riddled with warring families, I'll rise up between them. My people, the broken souls I gather, will have power by the time I'm done with them.
It all started with a contract signed by him, then by me, while our families watched. While my father sat silent, a man defeated, giving his daughter to the Benedetti monsters. I obeyed. I played my part. I signed my name and gave away my life. I became their living, breathing trophy, a constant symbol of their power over us. That was five years ago. Then came the time for him to claim me. For Salvatore Benedetti to own me. I had vowed vengeance. I had learned hate. And yet nothing could have prepared me for the man who now ruled my life.
There’s a thin line between hate and tolerance, and it seems to sit squarely between us. Lola Bell could easily bring an army of men to their knees, as long as she never opened her mouth. She’s soft in too many ways. A people-pleaser who goes the extra mile. Some might call her an easy target. In short, she has all of the qualities that I despise. But when it comes to me, she doesn’t hesitate to fling her poison arrows my way. She has every right to her feelings. Over the years, I’ve given her plenty of ammo. Yeah, I hate Lola. But it doesn’t stop me from wanting her too. When she makes me a proposition I can’t refuse, there’s just one problem.

Two years ago, I made a deal with the devil. That night, I lost everything. That night, I thought he died. But he's back. Risen, like Lazarus, from the dead. And he's dark. Darker than he was before. Dangerous. Unhinged. A scarred, tattooed savage. The way he looks at me should terrify me, but I'm drawn to him, to his intensity. Consumed by it. By him. Even though I know if I'm not careful, his obsession will destroy me.
I stole her in the night. Caged her because I can't live without her. She's my love, my addiction, my obsession. I will do anything to keep Sara mine.

Sasha.
He's dark and mysterious. Quiet and lethal.
An Irish mobster.
Pure sin wrapped up in a beautiful package.
But there's also something off about him.
He doesn't feel anything. He shows no emotions.
Sometimes, I question his humanity.
He hasn't spoken to me in two years. Not a single word.
But we share a secret, he and I.
And if it ever comes out, I have no doubt in my mind....
He won't have a problem killing me, too.
Ronan.
I've slain for her. I'll do it again.
When it comes to Sasha, there isn't a line I won't cross.
I watch her. She doesn't know it.
She thinks I hate her. Sometimes, I think I might, too.
But I'm always there, lurking in the shadows.
Craving her. Trying to keep the beast within at bay.
I'll keep her safe. I'll slaughter anyone who tries to hurt her.
The only thing I can't do...is protect her from myself.
This is a full-length standalone novel full of hot Irish guys with accents. Dark mafia themes throughout. HEA included.
I love A. Zavarelli ability to write heart-wrenching stories built on the foundation of characters who have suffered loss, tragedies, abuse, and weave a tale that transforms the story into something powerful and beautiful. The stories she writes will speak to your heart, and stick with you well after you've listened to them.
The characters are complex, deep and scarred. Ronan, know in Boston's underworld as the "Reaper", is a trained assassin who's full of rage. He struggles to overcome his brutal past and the harsh training he endured. While he may be a killer to his very core, his heart belongs to Sasha. He's fiercely protective of her, even if he doesn't understand all the emotions she evokes in him.
Sasha's character is strong, and vulnerable. She has "quirks" which she uses as a coping mechanism for stressful situations but they border on OCD. She's facing a heart breaking loss, which has her emotions on edge. When Ronan's protective instincts force him to take action, he inserts himself in her life, and comes up with a plan to ensure she stays with him.
These characters had their ups and downs, and I enjoyed watching their journey bring them closer together. From the tender moments, to the explosive outburst, to the steamy love scenes, their story was awesome. I loved how Sasha and Ronan turned to Crow and Mac for support.
Tracy Marks performance was fantastic, and really brought me into the story. She projects the character's emotions perfectly, and you can feel the angst, worry, happiness etc. In addition, she gives each character their own voice, and you can easily distinguish between them. Crows Irish accent is still one of my favorites! Great job!
I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. This story is absolutely, positively worth a credit, and the time invested in listening to the stories.

Would you listen to Reaper again? Why?
YES, of course this book is so good and the narration is great. I just fell in love with Ronan and Sasha is book 1 so I am so happy to see them together and well I won't give the story away!!
Which scene was your favorite?
My favorite scene doesn't exist the book just flowed well. I did like the scene with Ronan and his new dog where he says her name is Dog..it was funny. I also loved the "We need a baby" scene and they are trying to figure out the pamper..funny. Overall I just loved this book.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I did but had to finish it in 2 days..ugh.
Any additional comments?
I was given this book in return for unbiased honest opinion. This book really is a great story and although it was hot, this book offers so much more. It is just a well written story with a great narrator that does a hell of a good Irish accent. LOVED IT!!

A.Z. hit this one out of the park! The series just gets better. Reaper gives a rare inside view into the mind of an assassin. The "how, when and whys." She seamlessly blends a trained remorseless killer with a believable, vulnerable, & deserving man. Sasha loves him, defends him, fears him and needs him. Together they heal, they exist, they live. But only together.
What I failed to mention in CROW (Book One) and the same applies here is that the narration rocks! Tracy Marks pulls of male and female voices, accents and everything in between professionally and accurately—every time.
I don't give synopses. I'll just say that the book is a smash hit, an exciting hot & sexy story, well worth the credit. Ok then, I'm anxious for book three!
I was provided this audiobook through Audiobook Boom at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review.

Yes, I loved the character development. Its worth a second listen for sure.
What did you like best about this story?
THe amount of depth to the characters. Enjoyed the crossover of characters from book to book. This wasn't a super happy type love story, but it was good anyway. I enjoy this writer quite a bit.
What about Tracy Marks’s performance did you like?
Loved her performance. Love her voice and how she narrates.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
I'm not that creative.

What a sad story.Sounds alot like what the terrorist today may be doing to these young men and women to prepare them for killing people.A camp to torture to drive a person insane.Luckily Ronin in this story was found and brought into a loving home of his friend Crow, but unfortunately he is so damaged, the man may never know true trust or true relaxation.Sasha going through her own kind of hell, finds a way to connect and start the mending of Ronin's shattered heart and soul. You've got to feel awful for any one or any thing put through these brutal treatments.Good story with lots of heart and soul,a little depressing and dark for my usual though.Tracy Marks did an excellent job with all the characters in the story, giving the men Irish or even Russian accents and the local women who dance at the club, great Boston accent.Great story but not for those of us who want a more happier story.

Good if slightly disturbing story. Makes a nice change to read something in the Genre that is written well.

I listened to these out of sequence, but really enjoyed them nonetheless, my only gripe which is why I scored this story lower is the narrator is the same throughout this series and if you listen to them in succession it lessens the impact of connecting with the story. so much so that I can't on reflection tell one story from another.
Great story and I really wanted to hear Reapers version.
Oh my. I’m loving the Boston Underworld series sooooo much. So so much. Violent, gritty and dark, with addictive action packed storylines . My heart went out to both Ronan and Sasha, two completely lost souls. Ronan especially is so innocent and pure, even though he is one of the most violent men in the Irish mafia, he has so many insecurities my heart went out to him his devotion to Sasha made my heart go pitter patter. When it comes to romance Ronan is so sweet and loveable. Sasha is just the perfect match for him, the way she stands up for him and protects him in much the same way that Ronan does for her. The writing is dual POV (narrated brilliantly by Tracy Marks) and each of Ronan’s chapters start with an insight in to his very upsetting past. Not a pretty story and definitely not for the faint hearted. I’m loving this series on audible.
