Publisher's Summary

Payton Kendall and J. D. Jameson are lawyers who know the meaning of objection. A feminist to the bone, Payton has fought hard to succeed in a profession dominated by men. Born wealthy, privileged, and cocky, J. D. has fought hard to ignore her. Face-to-face, they're perfectly civil. They have to be. For eight years they have kept a safe distance and tolerated each other as coworkers for one reason only: To make partner at the firm.

But all bets are off when they're asked to join forces on a major case. Though apprehensive at first, they begin to appreciate each other's dedication to the law - and the sparks between them quickly turn into attraction. But the increasingly hot connection does not last long when they discover that only one of them will be named partner. Now it's an all-out war. And the battle between the sexes is bound to make these lawyers hot under the collar...

Perfect blend of romance and humor!

My current reading list has consisted of mostly dystopian/paranormal books and this was such a nice getaway. Julie James has the best method of blending together humor and romance without it getting overly cheesy. I found myself on more than one occasion busting out laughing and just giggling away at this book. It was the perfect light read to break up the monotony of my somber reading list!

this is my go to book

I absolutely love this story -the characters, the whit, the beginning, the ending and everything in between. I read this book a few years ago and have easily reread or listened to it at least 20 times since. JD was my very first BB! very few have compared since. if I had to critique it in anyway I would love for Julie James to rerelease this with current info -- not that I don't like it now - but I would love this story to connect with new readers/younger readers and it would need to be changed up from the early Oprah days. Thank you Julie for helping me love to read again!

"Hey" To be Determined

Where does Practice Makes Perfect rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This story is one of the best in the series. Lots of humor and quick thinking.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Payton, knows how to laugh off a bad situation!

Which scene was your favorite?

court room, when heel breaks...fast quick thinking and humor. When Payton has to give up
dairy for a month.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Let the better Lawyer win.

Any additional comments?

Julie James and Karen White make a great team. Ms White knows how to read Ms James work so well. You will get all the books in this series. These are romances with a legal background, but still romance stories.

Julie James and Karen White hit another homer!

This funny book about two long-time associate attorneys scratching their way into a partnership position is another Julie James and Karen White slam-dunk. So much fun to listen to, I didn't want it to end. Posturing, banter and smoldering attraction come together - finally! These two are like the dog magnets that repel each other. What is supposed to be a hands-off professional relationship finally falls into bed.

That's all I will say, except Karen White is so much fun to listen to! I bought this because she was narrator and because I had guiltily bought a Julie James book in the past and loved it! I will buy more, definitely.

Thanks, Julie and Karen - you are a dynamic duo!

This romantic comedy should be made into a movie

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I think the narrator did a fine job, but I thought her voice sounded too old for the characters.

Any additional comments?

Delightful story that should be made into a romantic comedy movie.

By the third chapter our handsome hero J.D. was appearing to be a real jack-hole. Actually, I found both the hero and the heroine to be career greedy idiots. It was a totally different take on a couple for me. And, I just loved it.

What I loved the most about this story was every time I thought I had the feud figured out I would be wrong. This war of roses tale was so funny. There was two scenes that were hilarious. In one scene I kept thinking, oh Payton Don’t NOT do it.... The scene with Payton in the court room was priceless, and it’s where I came to the conclusion that this story is movie worthy.

The only complaint I have with the story is the happy for now ending. I figured out how the competition would end and it was perfect. But, I really wanted to see more of this couple and their future
A satisifying read!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I really liked this one. I have no clue about Law but Payton and J.D. made it fun to read about. I think what I would've liked was more steam. It took like 80% for them to hook up and it wasn't detailed at all. If it hadn't been for that, I would have given this one a huge deserving 5 stars. Overall I still liked it. rivals to lovers is becoming one of my favorite tropes to read in a romance!

Predictable

Didn't love this... Narrator's voice was nasally to the point of distraction, and events of the story were very unrealistic.

Falls apart in the middle.

Any additional comments?

The book starts fine, but falls apart in the middle when the main characters start acting like children. The book comes back together, but it doesn't make up for the implausible events earlier in the book.
