Publisher's summary

I didn’t know bridesmaid was code for babysitter for the bride’s brother, but if that’s what my best friend needs of me for her dream wedding to go off without a hitch, that’s what I’ll do.

Even if Theo Monroe has been a pain in my rear since third grade.

Even if he should be responsible enough to not wreak havoc at his sister’s destination wedding.

Even if it means we have to share a hotel room in Hawaii, which might be the final duty that breaks me.

Not only does Theo know exactly how to push my buttons, but he never wears clothes, he’s hiding a litter of kittens in his room, and he keeps showing up with fresh-baked cookies that seemingly come from nowhere.

Also?

I have no idea what’s up with the tension between him and the groom.

Or why he’s so proud of the world’s strangest wedding gift.

Or why I suddenly want to know what makes him tick. The story behind his tattoos. How he can afford to rent a convertible in Hawaii. And if maybe all of that utter frustration and irritation I’ve felt for him for years is suppressed attraction that a good girl like me isn’t supposed to feel for the biggest bad boy of Snaggletooth Creek.

But I do know one thing.

When I find out his biggest secret and the answer to all of my questions, it will change everything.

The Worst Wedding Date is a frolicking good time of a destination-wedding enemies-to-lovers rom-com, complete with a good-girl bridesmaid, her best friend’s troublemaking but secretly bighearted brother, and more than one hitch on the way to happily ever after. It stands alone, has no cheating, and comes complete with ooey gooey goodness.

Meh casting

Why does the main male character have to sound like an old cowboy? The audio quality and casting did not work for me. DNF

Fun read

After reading more dark romance lately, I needed something a bit more lighthearted and fun. This book was just what I was looking for! Laugh out loud funny in places, with a great storyline and well developed characters. I thought the audio narrators were great, if not a little slow. But bumping up the speed a little bit make it just right.

Great writing, and narration

The story catches you in the first page, and it doesn’t stop. The author’s character development was impressive.

I was hoping his side gig wasn’t going to be was it was…

When the book first mentioned his side gig I genuinely thought the author was trying to mislead us into thinking it was what it actually is. I when we found out what it was I kind of got the ick from Theo. It just really brought him down a notch. Suddenly he became a little bit of a creep lol. Other than that the book was fine.

Better than a Cinnabon!

Pippa Grant needs to open a bakery because Theo Monroe is the sweetest, most gooey, hot cinnamon roll EVER. He’s kind, he’s caring, he’s loyal, and HE RESCUES KITTENS. Add in that he knits, bakes chocolate chip cookies, and is a gentleman even though the world thinks he is a bad boy, and I’m swooning. Even though he is a loud sneezer.

Delaney Kingston is perfect. At least, she tries to be. She dates who her parents want. She works for her family’s business. She follows the rules. She’s boring. She does what is expected of her. She’s a good girl. And she’s tired of it. When her best friend, Emma, asks her to keep brother (Theo) out of trouble for the week of her dream destination wedding, Laney reluctantly agrees. Even when that means she’s sharing a bungalow and a bed with her childhood nemesis.

Both narrators are new to me, and they were incredible. Kit Swann and Ryan West made this story magical, bringing out both the humor and heart Pippa is famous for. I can’t wait for more stories about the gang from Snaggletooth, Colorado. I also can’t wait to try to Theo’s cookie recipe. Warning: don't listen to chapters 6 or 14 while eating or drinking or in public.

weird ending

Book was okay. Main female character was a bit over the top. Narrator for the main male character read his lines as if he were reading a batman comic or something. There really was no story. The ending was from the point of view of a cat.

Perfect for our road trip.

My second read was through audiobook. I loved the book just as much the second time through and enjoyed hearing my husband's perspective as we road tripped. I thought the narrators did a fabulous job bringing the story and the characters to life. The sound balancing for the female narrator's portions could have leveled better. Some of her characters were quite loud while others were very soft. We were constantly adjusting the volume to compensate.

This standalone is not tied to any other books by this author. It is written in first person from an alternating dual POV and ends with a HEA.
An island resort is the setting for the wedding of Laney’s best friend, Emma. As a bridesmaid, she is tasked with the job of keeping the bride’s brother away from the groom as they are not getting along well at the moment. Theo tries to stay out of trouble, yet it always seems to find him anyway.
I LOVED Theo. He has such a positive outlook despite the negative things that go on around him. I love how he works with his self-talk. I adore his feelings for Laney. Laney is at a turning point in her life. I appreciated that she is finding herself and that Theo helps her do that. Her character experiences so much growth and becomes stronger throughout this book. Theo has a lot to do with that. Her feelings for Theo have even more to do with that. They have some steamy moments that are explicit, yet this book is really all about the feelings they each have.
Though there are certainly funny moments, and even moments that are little crazy, this book reads differently that the author’s other books (and I have read them all at least once). There are deeper layers to this story. There are layers of friendship, the history of growing up together in a small town where nothing is a secret, and some secrets that have been kept. (Until they are not.) A large piece of both MCs growth revolves around meeting or breaking the expectations set for them by those around them. Laney’s relationship with her parents is complex at the beginning, yet only becomes more layered and complex by the end of the book. Theo has built a successful life with a side hustle that defies general approval on the surface despite being a very good thing overall. As a result, his side hustle is a secret only known by a few at the beginning.
Secrets, small town nosiness, love, friendship, and one-bed forced proximity make this book a read you won’t want to miss. Blame the author when you fall for Theo. He is impossible to resist.

Read the book… but skip the audible version

I really enjoyed this book. The characters and the story. But I couldn’t listen to the audible version. The “overacting” of the characters by the narrators. Download this one on kindle and save yourself the cringes.
